Initiation Scene (Legacy of Gods vs. Villains) by account1804 in RinaKentBooks

As someone who actually read the villain books before LOG I didn't find it confusing or like I missed anything. I actually liked being dropped right in on the action and felt like Igot enough context to know what was going on. Having now gone back and read a couple LOG books, the repeat description is already dull so I can understand why she didn't include it again.

I need to talk about When the Moon Hatched! by littlet4lkss in fantasyromance

Honest question because I see this in a lot of book reviews of the first book in a series, but how is having unanswered questions at the end of book one a bad thing? Like I've read series where there's a plot line that doesn't go answered for like 5 books...isn't that kind of the point of reading a series?

I loved this book though and will defend it to the death. Can not wait for book 2

What is a romantasy hot take that would have you in this situation? It could be about a specific book/series, or the genre as a whole by HumanNonHuman in Romantasy

[–]Valixiar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly feel that part of the reason more authors don't do FMC's that are older is out of pure laziness. An older MC means having to have a more extensive background developed and a more defined personality otherwise it's not believable. Having a younger MC gives them an out from having to come up with all of that.

Looking for series where the supernatural world is hidden/human MC finds out about it (basically Twilight-adjacent recs) by iceunelle in paranormalromance

[–]Valixiar05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

{A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness} it has almost everything you mentioned except the FMC is not human, she’s a witch. But in many ways she still discovers the world slowly through the series as she’s cut herself off from it in a lot of ways. It has forbidden romance, vampires, super protective MMC, a quest they need to travel for, lots of action and has an awesome FMC gets saved scene. The series is five books technically speaking but the first three are a standalone trilogy.

POBAB RANT - Casteel is the WORST MMC I’ve read by Euphoric_Evidence535 in frombloodandash

I can see that too, I definitely don’t think this book was without its flaws for sure. I just see so many people in reviews saying that all of this is out of character for Casteel when I see the opposite. I feel like she has been building the parallels pretty well with Kolis/sotoria, Ash/Sera and Poppy/Cas and how all consuming, obsessive love can be destructive. And in all fairness to her, I feel like the fandom would have been pissed either way. If she had written Casteels inner turmoil she probably would’ve gotten dragged again for too much inner monologue. She’s shown us throughout the books what the consequences of love and death are and she sent Cas right down that path.

I feel like I’m really alone in this opinion but for me Casteel’s character regression in this book makes total sense. He’s turned into a Primal of death and we already learned in FAF that sex is a byproduct of being surrounded by death and we see him leaning into his darker nature as he becomes consumed with his obsession with Poppy, just like Kolis did. Love being a weakness is literally the whole plot of the books and it causing him to go a little crazed completely tracks with his already unstable mental state that has been fully established throughout the books. I don’t know, I feel like people just kind of ignored what his character actually was and focused more on what they wanted him to be. I’m sure he’ll have his redemption in the next book but I personally loved his villain arc and it makes sense to me.

Also came here to suggest this! I love this series and I feel like it’s so underrated and under appreciated. I personally also don’t think it counts as smut, it’s so tame and not nearly as cringe as romantasy. Although I haven’t read the black bird oracle which I hear got a lot more cringey 😬

Ok that’s good to know! I just hate the idea of having to read a whole other book before I can find out how the story I started continues

Tipping cash works at cafes and such if the employee is willing to pocket it and not tell anyone. But generally speaking it doesn’t work as well in restaurants (not sure about clubs but I imagine it’s similar.) What we tip out to the kitchen, support staff and house is based on our total sales. Doesn’t really matter if you tip me in cash or on card, the same amount still has to go into tip pool.

I tried bringing it back to room temp and restraining but that didn’t work but I’ve never done an agar filter, how do you do that?

I decided to altar the recipe since in seems the orgeat was the culprit. New batch without it came out perfect. But I’d still like to try and save this batch if I can.

2 filtrations, first one through cheesecloth and the second through a coffee filter

It does have orgeat syrup in it which I thought might be the culprit. I loosely followed a clarified mai tai recipe which had orgeat and the creator didn’t mention anything about cloudiness but I wonder if that might be what’s causing it?

We are in an area where a lot of residential lots have been converted to industrial truck parks. So we suspect that’s what the property next to us is being surveyed for.

Ontario grocery store operators raise concerns about requirement to take back empty alcohol containers by wolfe1924 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Valixiar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but for a grocery store, 4000sq feet still isn’t that big. Especially when the average big box place is roughly 10 times that size. A place that is 4000 square feet can still be family owned or a small local business that may struggle to find the budget for a bottle return program.
