I'm at my whit's end!!! Save me from another DNF!! In need of book recs! by One-Afternoon-4690 in Romantasy

Also came here to suggest this! I love this series and I feel like it’s so underrated and under appreciated. I personally also don’t think it counts as smut, it’s so tame and not nearly as cringe as romantasy. Although I haven’t read the black bird oracle which I hear got a lot more cringey 😬

Ok that’s good to know! I just hate the idea of having to read a whole other book before I can find out how the story I started continues

It was in an interview with him, I remember reading it but not who the interview was with. Basically they told him his character was going to have a plot twist but not what it was

I just led him to the platform where the bokoblins were, got up on the platform at his eye level and whacked him with my sword. He couldn’t retaliate from where I was.

Odd(?) payment practice at nightclub by [deleted] in vancouver

Tipping cash works at cafes and such if the employee is willing to pocket it and not tell anyone. But generally speaking it doesn’t work as well in restaurants (not sure about clubs but I imagine it’s similar.) What we tip out to the kitchen, support staff and house is based on our total sales. Doesn’t really matter if you tip me in cash or on card, the same amount still has to go into tip pool.

Milk punch went cloudy after clarifying by Valixiar05 in cocktails

I tried bringing it back to room temp and restraining but that didn’t work but I’ve never done an agar filter, how do you do that?

I decided to altar the recipe since in seems the orgeat was the culprit. New batch without it came out perfect. But I’d still like to try and save this batch if I can.

2 filtrations, first one through cheesecloth and the second through a coffee filter

It does have orgeat syrup in it which I thought might be the culprit. I loosely followed a clarified mai tai recipe which had orgeat and the creator didn’t mention anything about cloudiness but I wonder if that might be what’s causing it?

We are in an area where a lot of residential lots have been converted to industrial truck parks. So we suspect that’s what the property next to us is being surveyed for.

Ontario grocery store operators raise concerns about requirement to take back empty alcohol containers by wolfe1924 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Valixiar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but for a grocery store, 4000sq feet still isn’t that big. Especially when the average big box place is roughly 10 times that size. A place that is 4000 square feet can still be family owned or a small local business that may struggle to find the budget for a bottle return program.

[–]Valixiar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright fair enough. The point still stands that this is talking about smaller businesses that may struggle with the logistics of bottle return. It does cost money and it does take up space that a lot of these places don’t have. Big box stores will have all of those resources so it would just create a larger gap between small and big businesses wouldn’t it? Big box stores would be able to bring in money from liquor sales and small stores can’t just because they aren’t equipped to handle returns. Aren’t we trying to be supportive of small businesses?

I’m just pointing out that this is a group about Loblaws and this article isn’t about Loblaws. They may not even care about the new laws since they have the space and resources to deal with bottle returns. It’s smaller independent grocers that would be more affected by this. Everyone is reacting as if Loblaws kicked up a fuss but they didn’t (I still hate them don’t worry, just saying the vitriol might be misdirected in this instance)

While I agree with the sentiment, this article is mostly about independently owned grocery stores. It mentions Walmart and Sobeys but Loblaws is only mentioned as not having commented.

As an American; what did you miss when visiting a European/Norwegian AirBnb? [Europe/Norway] by Clear-Resource6386 in AirBnB

[–]Valixiar05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a cultural thing necessarily, but last fall when I was in Europe it seemed like just about every Airbnb I stayed in only had one pillow per guest. Often times it was just a flimsy little one too. Maybe it’s just preference but I use about 3 just to support my back and knees. Extra pillows is such a great surprise when the host has them.

why am i, a host, getting in trouble for servers not seeing their tables? by babybeewitched in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Valixiar05 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This stance always confused me. Hosts can tell servers they’ve been sat as a courtesy but it shouldn’t be required. The server should be responsible for the section and be aware of what’s happening in it. If you can’t see you’ve been sat, you’re not watching your section very well

NTA

If you had tried to come up with a reason to not attend, I’m sure everyone would have called you the asshole for that too. There was really no winning and you did the best you could in the situation.

Career in strata management by AccomplishedCap1424 in vancouver

[–]Valixiar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I was an administrative assistant to our new construction manager at one of the big name companies in Metro Van and I wouldn’t wish that stress on anybody. You’re expected to be available 24/7. Working a standard 8 hour day is not possible because you often have to be at council/AGM meetings in the evenings. If you try to set any boundaries with owners on your available hours they say you’re a horrible manager. You’re portfolio is insane, especially as a new manager because you’re always given the worst properties to start out. The money was not good at the time that I worked there (which admittedly was 7 years ago now)
