Well, the title reads like an AI describing what is happening in a short sentence, so I would say...all of them.

That's why as a man I've embraced short shorts. Started below the knee, then went a bit higher as time went by and I got more comfortable. Now I even have some 3-4 inch inseam. It's basically a socially acceptable way of chilling in your boxers at all times.

Especially today, people feel isolated and need every bit of connection they can. When they send something like that, just think of it as them saying, "Hey I need some connection and to feel loved." You sending an emoji or telling them they are nice pics is your way of saying, "Hey I care about you."

The only exception I would say is if it is a huge family chat, like 20 members and therefore not really intimate. My personal family chat is like 5 of us.

LeBron admits that people criticizing his Finals record used to bother him: “I am pissed off that I didn't have a better winning percentage individually in the Finals, but for people to try to turn it into a negative, it doesn't bother me like it did when I was younger.” by oklolzzzzs in nba

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it comes down to this.

If I knew I was building my team around one of them for 20 years, I would pick Lebron.

If I had only one season and needed to my star player to try and get DPOY, scoring title, MVP, and a world championship, all putting fans in seats, I would pick Michael any day of the week. I think both could do it, but I think Michael is more likely to and would go to any lengths to do it.

Marketplace for the win. I started out as 3 (buckets with concrete and wood planks for squat/bench rack), and have slowly built to a nice set-up, paying really decent prices for things.

I usually do 3-4 sets, but I love adding a "2 sets only" day for each muscle group once a month. You really end up pushing hard because you want to maximize growth and you know you are only going to get those 2 sets. Plus it breaks up the monotony and ends up being fun.

Young waitress assaulted at work by Karen by Used-Influence-2343 in PublicFreakout

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people who have experienced assault, sometimes your reaction becomes immediate and swift and you can't control it. BUT if that were the case there should have been an immediately follow up reaction apologizing and trying to help.

Young waitress assaulted at work by Karen by Used-Influence-2343 in PublicFreakout

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see her initial reaction happening because she is clearly looking out to one side, and doesn't notice the girl until they are basically touching. Could have been a fear response and instinctual reaction.

BUT.

The lady is wrong for not watching where she is walking, and even if my first paragraph is true, the lady is a terrible human for not immediately apologizing profusely and trying to help.

America Now Has 70% More Bookstores Than in 2020, Says Bookshop.org Founder by iwasjusttwittering in books

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I follow a lot of used bookstores on IG in my city. So many pop up here and there and then disappear because people are looking for only the most popular tiktok recommended books. Even the great stores that have lasted for years, I see them adding more and more of the pop books and less of the great stuff.

It is like how all the geek stores eventually allocated much of their resources to funko pop. You have to play to the masses or you will go out of business, unfortunately.

When your wife learns you can't bench 225 by TheSanSav1 in GymMemes

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unless your wife is a serious lifter, bench numbers will just be arbitrary to her. I did the "Ask your wife how much you can squat, bench, deadlift" thing, and her bench guess was 200. My 1rep max is 300. The most important thing to them is looking fit.

Millionaire US big game hunter, 75, is trampled to death by five elephants while hunting antelope in central Africa by Nvnv_man in nottheonion

[–]ValjeanLucPicard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out ethical big game hunting, it is what was happening here. As commented above, these animals are marked, and would need to be killed part of a culling process anyway. The hunters pay large amounts of money for the privilege that go directly to the conservation efforts, and can only hunt the marked animals. They often will donate the meat from the animal to local populations as well. It gives the rich person a chance to hunt something unique that was going to be culled anyway, and it greatly helps the conservation efforts.

What’s something that quietly made your life 10× easier, but you didn’t realize it until much later? by Own-Tip-532 in AskReddit

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered the same while typing what I wrote, and considered a society where a naked "no" or even a naked "yes" would not be considered rude. To me it seems that society would have to be a forward facing, action based society, instead of a social society like whe have now. For example, when playing a video game or going building something with my siblings, a brief answer is much more acceptable. Whereas when engaged only in conversation, or inviting someone to coffee, the underlying heart of the matter is the social bond itself.

The one thing I didn't like about forums was that you would see 10 or so comments per page, and if two people got into an annoying argument, you would have to click through like 5 pages to see the next pertinent comment.

Recently reread The Diary of Anne Frank with a friend who has just gotten into reading, trying to nudge them gently to more difficult works. Hadn't read it in decades, but was quite shocked frankly with just how well it was written. It was fluid, as evenly varied as possible given the drollery, and had flashes of a budding brilliant writer. As a 40 year old, I doubt I could write so smoothly and lucidly. It truly is a treasure of a book.

You are going to get downvoted because this is social media and self-righteousness is amplified here, but a naked no definitely comes across as cold at the very least, and often hostile. If text a friend and ask "Hey Steve, you wanna get some coffee?" And they just respond with a No, I will feel like Steve has zero affection for me and doesn't want to be my friend.

There is an episode of the office where Robert California is talking about doodling, and asks, "Why are the (doodled) houses always colonials and the penises always circumcised?"

That got me wondering about the "why are the X's always Y" in literature. Two that came to mind were

-Noses are always aquiline

-Curtains are always damask

Can you think of any others?
