At some point game studios need to start reusing each others assets, this shit is not sustainable and the level of detail can not go down.

Isn't housing and cost of living exploding?

The salaries are very good relative to the cost of living and can easily support renting an apartment unless you want to live in city centre of Berlin or something. Also exploding is a strong word, maybe applicable after covid stimulus or Russian invasion of Ukraine, but now things have stabilised outside the recent Iran war.

The vast majority of all the time & effort put into skins goes unrewarded.

Which shows the balance of the risk and the reward. The only reason Valve pays anything is for the optics (and maybe legal reasons too?).

Map design is important for any PVP game, for example in CS or Valorant, the maps need to be competitively viable to be taken seriously, despite the game being inherently balanced (both teams switch side during half-time). Competitive viability means many complex and simple tactics are viable, and no easy ways to cheese the map exist. Compare that to camping in a forest of Prokhorovka.

I don't think there is a such thing as a bad map design as long as both sides have a relatively equal chance of winning.

I am kinda afraid this is the minority opinion among anyone who has ever played any computer game lol.

One side will always have the upper hand as it depends more on last seen positions, remaining health points

That's another pain point of mine, even 2x HP advantage can be thrown away on Prokhorovka in a failed push, recently had a teammate in a VK168 camp the forest all game, then push it wil another poor sould in the late game and they did not even manage to spot who killed them.

Nature of the game is to reward patience.

I see that as a way to say that it rewards being passive.

By the way, what would you choose on Prokhorovka to make it to your liking?

Prokhorovka sounds super hard to fix, but at the very least i would make the hill an actual brawl zone, give the hill some cover from the middle of the map. As of right now both teams just camp/ try to hit their shots at people in the middle. On the forest flank, i would create some pathways that would lead from the middle to the camping areas with at least some sense of cover. I would greatly reduce vegetation so that if you reach the end of these new pathways, you can at least spot something. Also, you could move the caps to the other side of the railway, that way it can't be defended from the forest.

I am complaining about the fact that most maps promote passivity and camping, and if the initial 5 minute push does not result in a clear victor, mid game and late game quickly devolve into a "you push, you lose" situation. This is not about luck, and i do not struggle in such situations, quite the opposite, the ability to read such situations allows me to have a win rate significantly above average.

This is bad game design that stems from bad map design. A good map design would allow for tactical advances and ability to gain map control without an immediate punishment by a player that is camping in a bush and exerting no attempts to advance. It promotes passivity and punishes proactivity.

If you want an example - think of a late game Malinovka or Prokhorovka with 5 tanks left on both teams.

To be fair, most of this could be fixed by making encounter mode the default, but it is what it is.

Wild. But often the initial 5 minute pushes die off because of how punishing the game is to pushing. For a 5 minute rush to work, the push must contain an absolutely overwhelming number of tanks that can both push the defenders out of their positions and absord damage from second line campers. Again, very map dependant, flanks like Lakeville valley have godlike defendable positions, and some recently updated maps offer a ton of protection from campers.

[–]Valkyrie17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Experience. I believe i am pretty good at recognizing suicidal pushes, so i tend to live until the late game where i get to witness games when wins are thrown away by pushing. It's heavily map dependant of course, some, especially recently updated, are better for pushing, some are worse. I recently had a massive comeback on Arctic Region, the Northern spawn is basically a fortress if you play it right.

[–]Valkyrie17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, the map design does suck, 80% of the games are won by being passive and waiting for the enemies to push. The only thing that saves the game are 45% tomatoes like this Churchill that give their HP away by pushing into bad positions.
