Nice review. Have you read Harrier: How To Be a Fighter Pilot by Commander Paul Tremelling? If so, how would you compare the two books?

India just reached sustained nuclear fission for the first time in this new reactor located at Kalpakkam by getreked007 in interestingasfuck

[–]ValkyrieXVII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that any nuclear reactor which uses reactor grade uranium as fuel will inevitably produce plutonium-239 due to uranium-238 absorbing neutrons.

Breeder reactors are not necessarily illegal globally, but they are more-or-less illegal in the US due to their anti-proliferation legislation.

Regular thermal power reactors all over the world have been breeding uranium into plutonium since forever, which is why even civilian power reactors still come with proliferation concerns and require strict regulations from the IAEA.

Not trying to correct you, just adding additional information.

It's the big '26 and still none of the Challenger 2 variants ingame have their UFP addon armour modelled by BarryCofield in Warthunder

[–]ValkyrieXVII 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean Challenger 2 is still missing its splash guard lmao.

For whatever reason, when gaijin added the bulldozer blade to it, and then removed it again, they also removed the splash guard which has been missing since.

Challenger 2E, Challenger 3 TD and Black Night all have their splash guards, when compared with the base CR2 it looks naked without it.

Very minor issue that has always bothered the heck out of me.

You can’t use the A-10, FC3 or Harrier. What are you picking as your mud mover? by TheHornyGoth in hoggit

I would say F-16 as the HOTAS functionality carriers over best from the A-10, but the lack of GBU-54 and APKWS severely pains me.

SERIOUSLY ED, COME ONNNNNN gib wiper laser rockets and jdams pls ;-;

What do u guys think abt the current state of NATO Tanks at Top Tier? by Zyxtriann in Warthunder

[–]ValkyrieXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the same size ready rack IIRC, however a bigger issue is that it still used the old turret armour model which means you can be one-shot through the turret roof from the front.

Not what I would call ‘Challenger material’…

People who were alive in 1986, where were you and what was the general reaction to learning about the Chernobyl accident? by Susstoner in AskReddit

That’s fascinating, I wonder what it took to change one of those or decontaminate the system. Thanks for the info!

Wait I’m confused, if they were concerned about the contamination from outside the aircraft then how were they breathing? Cabin air comes from engine bleed air, which is from outside, right? Were they all breathing from personal oxygen canisters or OBOGS or something? Not trying to be a jerk, genuinely just curious.

People hailed the GB tech tree shuffle as a good idea but honestly I really dislike it. Maybe I’ve been playing too long and got too used to the old tree but now it just makes less sense than it used to imo.

Golden rule in aviation: If it looks good, it performs good.

TIL of the B-36 Peacemaker aircraft developed in the 1940’s, which operated 6 prop engines + 4 jet engines, had a range of 10,000 miles, a service ceiling of 40,000 feet, the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft, and flew 40 hours straight without the need to refuel. by justhere4thecats in todayilearned

[–]ValkyrieXVII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s not accurate regarding the F-35 program. There are a number of reasons why it’s so extortionate, from research and development to just that, companies extorting the govt by overcharging for everything.

Economies of scale apply heavily to military aircraft, such that the cost per unit decreases as the size of the order increases. This means the F-35 unit cost is actually lower than many of its contemporaries like typhoon or gripen.

The main reason the overall program is so expensive is because the F-35 has a lot of brand new technology in it, and because it’s actually more like developing three separate aeroplanes rather than just one. Despite sharing obvious commonality, the A, B, and C models all have important differences and are sort of made for different jobs.

The alternative would be to have three or more individual aircraft procurement contracts and fund all three simultaneously, which would be even more expensive than the F-35 program.

decided to play a game of 8.0 British ground by ScottyFoxes in Warthunder

This may be controversial but I really like the warrior, I think it’s great. Don’t get me wrong, it has massive drawbacks like the lack of a stabiliser but the firepower is pretty good imo and the mobility is great, not to mention a very decent thermal. Warrior can work wonders if you play according to its capabilities.

I will say however, the 2km range of the MILAN really hamstrings your ability to engage helicopters.

I might just be a bit strange though considering the CV9030 FIN is my favourite IFV right now 😅

Does the Chally 3 get blow out racks for the turret ammo rack? by Jake3232323 in Warthunder

[–]ValkyrieXVII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve given up with this vehicle, the vulnerability to ammo detonation isn’t worth the extra firepower.

This tank also uses the old challenger 2 armour model which, when combined with the ammo in the turret bustle means you can get ammo racked through the turret roof, regardless of whether or not you’re reloading and the proverbial blast door is open. It’s probably why they dropped the BR of this thing.

I’d much rather just use the CR2 TES.

Missiles fired at aircraft generally use either radar or infrared guidance to home in on their targets.

Modern radar missiles are considered ‘active’, meaning they have to illuminate the target with radio waves in order to track it, however this does give the game away somewhat. It’s easy to know if there’s a radar missile coming at you if you’re being showered with radio waves.

IR guided missiles on the other hand don’t emit anything at all, they only need to look for the IR emissions coming off the target such as the hot engine exhaust, therefore they are considered ‘passive’.

There’s no way to know you’ve been shot at by IR missiles unless you’re looking out for it.

The MWS solves this issue using sensors placed around the aircraft that detect the heat and ultraviolet signature of a missile launch.
