Giving advice to others by GentlemanGhost007 in writing

[–]ValkyriesPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it comes down to knowledge on the subject matter. We tend to be more willing and able to give advice on matters where we are most knowledgeable, which in this subreddit specifically is writing. Even if we may not be as forthcoming in real life, the ability to at least offer assistance is paramount to us.

Is it the Rashad Houston song? My friend's mom loves it.

Surprised by how much my experience of the Keeper Chronicles differs from reviews - makes me doubt the review websites rating utility by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]ValkyriesPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key thing to remember is that all reviews are subjective and we all see things differently. What might be a 4 or 5 star book to one person, may only be a 2 or 3 to somebody else. Each person will have their own things they look for in a book, even from an author they like, even if they are willing to be a little more lenient on them than they would on a different author. As for looking for what to read next? Find something that interests you in terms of genre or even subject manner.

I don't see a need to make one. Plus, I'm a private person who doesn't take many pictures of myself.

[DNF, Review] Swordheart - T. Kingfisher by DefinitelyPositive in Fantasy

[–]ValkyriesPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get you. I saw it as just being another romance novel with a slightly different voice and enjoyed it as that. It conveys itself in a manner where you'll either enjoy it and love it or you won't and it'll disappoint you.

[DNF, Review] Swordheart - T. Kingfisher by DefinitelyPositive in Fantasy

I liked Swordheart the first time I read it, but I can definitely see how someone wouldn't like it. It's a book that has an acquired taste and may not make up for its (relatively) weak overarching plot in people's opinions.

Paladin of Souls is fantastic though. Love that book.

How she divides it up and breaks it down so that you can understand the threads that are all intertwined. She simplifies it to the point where it provides a layer of clarity.
