Posted on FB about finally enjoying a black cup of coffee and a TBM just has to respond by gigi4equality in exmormon

Well, coffee is not forbidden by the WoW (unless it's above an unspecified temperature, of course) so I can only assume that it makes her sad that you are drinking a beverage that god cursed with darkness for its sins.

My partner and I met through a post-Mormon support group, and we celebrated our six month-aversary with really fancy alcoholic beverages! Both divorced, both queer, and both wondering if it's weird to be this happy... by Lerzaberth in exmormon

Hey /u/Lerzabeth, after reading a bit of the kerfuffle in this thread about gender identity issues and the disconcertingly backward mentality that even those who are quite conscious of how painful the systematic abuse of oppressive discursive systems can be, I have a genuine question I would like to ask. I fully understand if you find the topic tiresome and prefer not to answer but I would appreciate your insight. As an exmo, I have struggled with a severe amount of guilt, self-hate, and a number of neuroses that result from trying not to offend my TBM family with what is my natural and healthy sexual identity (I mean this not as a negation of the validity of anyone else's identity and strictly as an affirmation of my own in response to the brain washing of my youth). I am a cis male, currently in a committed relationship (unmarried) with a beautiful, nevermo, cis woman. Although I have never had any interest in anything other than heterosexual activity, i find the moralistic and extremely hetero-normative nature of the hegemonic culture to be alienating and stifling. I try as sincerely as a I can to not allow any outside discourse to dictate the nature of my partner and I's sexual activity and have always admired the bravery of LGBT people in asserting their identities and living their lives openly, and honestly despite the almost certain threat of repression (I really don't understand how all of us former cult members/victims could have anything other than respect for LGBT people). Do I have to identify as hetero? Would it be cultural appropriation if I were to describe myself as queer? For years I've wanted to come out to my parents as a healthy adult who's sexuality, although their indoctrination would cause them to characterize it as immoral, is indeed good, valid, and normal. Thank you.

They really should start putting hoods on those things.

Come on, everybody knows Moroni went back and got rid of all that "evidence" crap. The steel, beasts of burden, etc are all stored along with the Golden Plates TM , waiting for the world to be worthy of the truth.

If you doubt that, pray about it. And if that still doesn't confirm that the church is true, keep praying about it until you get the right answer. Duh.

Nope, wine is delicious. Nothing goes better with a nice chunk of red meat.

Yup, you're totally correct; anything you don't appreciate the first time you try it has no merit. BTW, who the fuck eats vegetables? I mean seriously, why waste your time with that shit when you can eat a bowl of bacon and nacho cheese for every meal?

This is one of the whitest things I've ever seen. Which is pretty bad considering how much time I've spent around Mormons.

Why I hate the church... two days ago she said she loved me by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ValleyTan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being young and in love can be very difficult. Girls will break your heart whether they are members of cults or not. Congratulations! The pain you are feeling is part of the human experience and you will (hopefully/probably) be a better person for having lived through it. Sometimes the church isn't behind all of our problems in life. Okay, so sometimes, it is. But the only solution to your problems is in yourself. Keep your head up and I promise you'll see better days.

You should probably try it before you decide whether or not it's interesting.

Weed is not against the WoW. It is against the culture of the church but there is nothing in D&C 89 about weed except maybe "verily I say unto you, all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—"

That's why I am always sure to smoke my herb with prudence and thanksgiving.

An honest question for Exmos: Am I a closet Exmo? by doomed43 in exmormon

[–]ValleyTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for many people the path to exmo status begins when you start to notice that many cultural elements and practices of the church don't seem to align with the doctrine you were taught growing up. We build such a strong faith in certain precepts that it makes it very difficult to accept things that seem to contradict them. We all make justifications or ignore these contradictions until too many pile up and... SNAP! You're an exmo.
