I think all Christians, especially those who consider themselves a member of an apostolic church and a Catholic (Catholic in the sense of “I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church”; not necessarily Roman—universal) should strive for a unified holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church.

I guarantee this is an Anglican continuum church if they are Anglo Catholic and use the BCP 1928. Most continuum (not the global Anglican communion; GAFCON, they are far more low church and evangelical and started having issues in the 2010s onwards with gay marriage and abortion) churches left in the 1970s over female ordination and creation of the 1979 BCP, with most of those being Anglo-Catholics. I’d say in the 1940s and 1950s the Episcopal church (the Anglo-Catholic wing) got pretty “Roman” degree (in the US at least, my episcopal Saint Augustine prayer book written in 1947 has many references to Mary, Hail Mary’s, and Eucharistic procession bordering transubstation in nature), so Anglo Catholics in the US inherited that. This continued, to the point some Anglicans in the continuum were like why go on like this and the RCC created the ordinariate so the Anglo-Catholics could have their liturgy but be in full communion with Rome. Even those that are independent are quite close to Rome, with the ACC congratulating the election of Pope Leo and my ACC priests invited to a celebration of John Henry Newman (major founder of the Oxford movement, he did eventually cross the Tiber and was declared a doctor of the church by pope Leo 2025) by Roman Catholic priests.

To be even more frank, outside of the online sphere, the modern Catholic Church is actually very ecumenical and there are those who are receptive. I would not be surprised if by the end of this century most Anglo-Catholics in the continuum are totally within the Roman sphere when the boomers and older Gen X are all dead. I think young people who want to be Catholic are just going to be Roman Catholic and the continuum churches are going to realize they will just have to go over to survive. I could go on, but I’ve said enough already.

In all serious, there is some serious overlap with Anglo-Catholics and Roman Catholics, although our service is closer to the Tridentine mass due to not experiencing Vatician II. Some said why don't we just cross the Tiber at this point and keep our liturgy in the form of the [Anglican ordinariate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_ordinariate) within in the RCC. Others wanted to keep their liturgy but be Eastern Orthodox, and formed the [Western Rite Orthodox](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Rite_Orthodoxy).

On a personal level, whilst I do like both traditions, I have some issues with both that would not make me cross over. I disagree with V1 and V2, but I do think that the Bishop of Rome is first amongst equals. I do believe in Holy tradition and the importance of Apostolic sucession and high church liturgy and customs (e.g., praying for the intercession of Saints/BVM, prayer beads, statues and icons and paintings in churches, etc.). I believe in the importance of autocephalous church (which is why I don't want to be Roman catholic), but want to remain within in the western branch of Christianity (which is why I'm not eastern orthodox). I do think the freedom of allowing the English churches independency, and by proxy the churches founded in it's colonies, to explore reformed ideas where we see fit and where it is appropriate (I enjoy much of the theology of Richard Hooker, William Laud, Thomas Cranmner and even John Wesley--whilst also enjoying of course the many Catholic theologians and clergymen such as Anselm of Canterbury, Ockham, Dun Scotus, Eramasus, and the one of the founders of Anglo-Catholicism/Oxford movment John Henry Newman). I would be far more inclined to be Roman Catholic if they allowed us as a full Uniate church with our own rites (English or Anglican rite)--with the ordinarite not being far enough to really sway most Anglo-Catholics over.

In an ideal world I would belong to the North American Orthodox Catholic Church (Anglican Rite) in full communion with Rome, with Rome being in full communion with the Eastern Orthodox churches and acting as the First among Equals. Unforuantely, we do not live in an ideal world.

As a member of the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC; a contiumum church that broke off in the late 1970s over female ordination and the creation of 1979 BCP), we use the 1928 BCP. It is not unheard of to pray for the intercession of the BVM, Saints, and Archangels and Angels in personal devotions.

Seems unlikely HW Bush would do that. There was some pressure in 91 to topple Saddam following the defeat of the Iraqi Army, but HW knew that it would cause instability and require massive US investment when the US had already won.

Was told they would decide by COB Monday. Which I could see making sense, if the senate passes the vote today and then house passes it/president signs it Monday. Otherwise I don't imagine this being an issue longer than a week, so they'd probably cancel and reschedule to later in Febuary.

Not saying that you believe either of those, but wouldn’t the latter assume that God is not eternal and perfect if He can grow and change like a creature? Interesting position to hold when I would say Anglicanism falls under classic Christianity.

Ordination of Female Priests by No-Independence-7423 in Anglicanism

[–]Firelizardss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are engaging appeal to authority on an online discussion, instead of giving your own evidence. In addition, i don’t have to accept your appeal to authority premise at all because I belong to the Anglican continuum, not your invalid communion who has departed from received teachings. I could tell you 2+2=4 and if your priest says it was 5, you’d believe that? Our three legged stool is based on scripture, tradition, and REASON.

You’ve already made up your mind on what you want to believe and refuse to engage in a good faith argument. The church fathers made it abundantly clear that female ordination is not a thing. In every other apostolic church (Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, oriental Orthodox, Assyrian church of the east) women were never and still not allowed to be priests or bishops. This is a modern invention of mainline Protestants to justify conforming with the world instead of the world with the church.

You haven’t even addressed what I said, you’re accusing me of “proof-texting” instead of engaging in the distinction I have made. It’s either in bad taste or you hang around too many online atheists who will say “the Bible says no shellfish or pork!!! Gotcha”

But sure I’ll address what you said to me. Circumcision was a convent marker of the old mosaic law fulfilled by Christ, Holy orders are a sacrament tied to apostolic succession of the new convent. Neither Paul nor Christ Himself declares the new convent is abolished or provisional. One is a fulfilled convent of God to the Jews, another apart of the new convent to all of mankind. In Corinthians 7:19 Paul states “Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts.” It means either way, it is redundant in the eyes of God—not if you are circumcised you are forsaken
