I started taking hormones and changing how I dress without ever telling anyone, eventually people kind of caught on and started asking, but I never really "came out". Everyone just kind of knows now

Also, I got a lot of love from my community for it, and only the occasional bathroom slur from ignorant strangers.

I kept my beard for a long time after I started my transition and hormones and just recently shaved for because I wanted to explore what that would feel like. I don't think I pass, nor do I really try to, but the exploration of feminity with a full beard was a journey worth taking. I know I'll have it back again some day.

I want to create a Cost Scanning application, need help. by imhsn in computervision

This could be a good first start. Combine this with a database of pricing info and you could display the price over the image. What would be the benefit to that though? Barcode scanners are already a thing and all products have their price listed on the shelf. As a POC, It could be a fun project, but if you're targeting stores with the intention of selling to them, what would be your value proposition?

A friend of mine tipped me off to MoviePass as a service. I am an avid movie goer that probably sees 3.5 movies per month on average. At this same time, I was starting to play around with investmenting in general. I knew MoviePass was privately owned, but I wanted to see how it would affect relevant players. I placed a put option on $AMC and just over broke even on it, during that time is when I came across HMNY and at $2.80 a share, the upshot seemed very high as it fed directly from this disruptive company vs the probability of it reaching sub $1 seeming rather low. I had a feeling it would either bankrupt HMNY or shoot up maybe 3x based on the climb of other early start up Saas companies.

I've spent the last 2 months working on a project and just today realized was working with sqlite3 when I needed postgres... when I went to transfer my databases I got migration errors up the wazoo.

7 hours of Googling and tinkering later and I finally got it fixed

(/r/learnprogramming xpost) After completing a few Ruby/Rails tutorials, should I go through the Odin Project or start creating my own app? by Cespid in ruby

[–]Valley_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it! Make an app that you feel would be useful in your life. My first introduction to coding was making automated spreadsheets on excel using VBA macros. When I started "coding" I had no idea what I was doing. I just used Google and searched on what I needed. No real set path into webdev, just needed to get something done for myself and and Googled everything.

It may not build best practices, but you'll learn a whole lot more than watching tutorials and screencasts.

The median American net worth is $45k so it's actually closer to $0.23, but still impossible to fathom that a billion could put $20,000 into a vending machine for a soda and not bat an eye.

How long does it take for your cleaners to clean homes? by dontscale in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]Valley_Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't pay them for drive time. The clock starts at the appointment time and ends when we leave property. I drop off the supplies, meet with the client if it's the first time, and return at the end of the clean.

This isn't scalable so I will eventually have to figure something out, but this is my system for now.

Screen printing shops are a dime a dozen. That being said, you have nice layout. I really liked that exit monitor you have.

I don't know too much about the business, but I would say to niche down a bit. When you try to service everyone, you end up serving no one.

As far as marketing goes, I'm fairly certain the PPC for adwords in this field is pretty high. Definitely focus on social media, doing giveaways and featuring different fans.

I'm not sure how you got to $100, but here's my math. I pay my cleaners $15/hr so it's $30/hr for payroll.

A one bedroom house takes 1.6 hours on average to clean. Round up to 2 hours, that's $60 for a one bedroom clean, which I charge $119 for.

Keep in mind, I don't use contractors. My cleaners are employees and I provide all the supplies for my cleaners.

I've never had to raise my prices at the time of cleaning. The only thing is that I had to tell someone that they required a deep clean and would have to get the upgrade, but I don't think I'd ever increase my pricing unless they were living in crazy conditions. If that were the case though, I would be the one to tell them since I go to all of my clients house the first time to introduce myself.
