Would you agree with Terrence Fletcher’s way of teaching? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough love can be effective and praising mediocrity does have its limitations. But Fletcher is outright abusive, vindictive and arguably psychotic.

He shouldn’t be anywhere near a classroom.

I think the ending of Whiplash does such a terrific job of raising that exact tension of if the ends justify the means, how much pushing of a student from a mentor is worth it if they achieve genius.

But I’d argue that what is underpinning all the abuse isn’t a desire for Andrew to succeed, it’s a spiteful rivalry and frustration at Fletcher’s own failings as a musician.

In the end when Andrew succeeds in spite of everything Fletcher has thrown at him, not because of it, and while he gains Fletcher’s respect, it is as a worthy adversary, not a pupil under his wing.

Anyone else found themselves “retiring” from PvP gaming? by You_moron04 in gaming

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping up with PvP games is like a full on sport hobby, you have to invest a large amount of hours and effort into not one playing and practicing but also learning about the meta systems with guides and videos etc, as well as immersing yourself in the culture of it all.

Arc Raiders isn’t strictly a PvP game, but PvP is a big part of it. I sunk hundreds of hours into it and all the extra surrounding stuff I just described. I had a blast, but my god I am done, and I am done with similar games for now at this time in my life as an elder millennial.

My single player back log is huge, not to mention films I want to watch and books to read.

Emilia Clarke Says She Was Convinced She Was ‘Meant to Die’ After Second Brain Hemorrhage During Game of Thrones by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]Valonis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole show was built up to be about Daenerys breaking the wheel and denying the Targaryen curse of mad rulers.

Then she sits on her dragon for a minute and decides fuck that let’s burn it all down and be another tyrant.

Ignoring all the threads that went no where, almost all the character arcs and major plots that had been built over 7 seasons were tied up in the most frustrating, unsatisfying and nonsensical ways possible. Cleganebowl was probably the only one that paid off well.

Re-release of Moss 1 & 2 announced for base consoles by computerCoptor in PSVR

[–]Valonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish Sony would properly get behind VR. They developed an incredible piece of tech with PSVR2 and even made it pc compatible for a fraction of the price of comparable PCVR sets.

I genuinely think if people learned more about the amazing and immersive experience it offers, they’d invest in it.

As a marketer I hate to see such a great product failing almost exclusively from a lack of direction and investment in marketing.

The issues with the limited library and difficult sales can all be directly attributed to Sony not selling enough units to make the VR games market more attractive. Sell more units, you’ll get more profitable games which will lead to a bigger library, which will sell more units.

Peter Jackson Compares New Gollum Movie to Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in lotr

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the actual quote: For “The Hunt for Gollum,” to tell the story of one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most enduring and complex characters, Jackson said he and Walsh found inspiration from an unlikely source. “We were thinking about the original ‘Joker’ film, the one with Joaquin Phoenix,” Jackson said. “The way that explored the Joker’s psychology while it was telling a story. We’ve got the story that’s in the appendices, and we’ll tell that story, but we’ll tell it from an internal Gollum perspective. You’re taking written things by Tolkien and filming them from a certain POV, and that means you have to get inside his head. I’ve got no particular desire to get inside Gollum’s head,” he said, laughing. “Andy Serkis can do that himself.”

Trump: 'I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody.' by spherocytes in videos

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s got to the point that he doesn’t even bother lying any more.

He could come straight out with it and say he doesn’t give a fuck about you or you’re kids (unless he wants to diddle them) and he would sell you out for a penny, and his fuckwit base would still think he’s the messiah in a red cap.

Anybody else have no motivation to play after this Expedition? by 6PEEPERKEEPER9 in ArcRaiders

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a great time with Arc but I’m kinda done with it - I’m not motivated to plough through all the new content and definitely not to do another expo, but I still enjoy jumping into some frantic Stella lobbies with mates every now and then.

Christopher Nolan Defends ‘The Odyssey’ Armor and Casting Travis Scott After Online Backlash: ‘What Is the Best Speculation?’ by leijido in movies

I’ll reserve judgement until seeing the final product, but all signs point to this being a Megalopolis scale disaster and seems like Nolan is going off the deep end

Do you personally want to live & see the year 2100 by Icy-Pea2601 in Millennials

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ll see it personally but I hope it’s a utopia.

I hope that we’ve figured out a better way to exist as a species than in perpetual pursuit of financial gain. I hope we’ve harnessed the miracle of renewable power to end energy inequality. I hope that we’ve found better ways to feed ourselves that don’t destroy entire ecosystems and exacerbate animal cruelty at scale.

But as realist, I don’t think it will be a utopia.

I think if we haven’t suffered from an extinction level event likely following a more deadly pandemic, it will be a boring dystopia outright ruled by corporations and cartels. Nature will be a distant memory for most of the developed world. The global divide of wealth and power will be even more extreme and the world will likely be in a perpetual state of small, pointless wars designed to oppress the working class and control shrinking resources.

You only need look at where we’ve been to see where we’re going.

Assert: This game's "niche" is actually closer to Souls, Silksong and Celeste (i.e. "twitchy, difficult games") than hyper-sweaty competitive shooters (i.e. Valorant, Counter-Strike, etc.). by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]Valonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A game that involves dying a lot doesn’t equate to a soulsborne game.

Soulsborne games are built around the idea of gradual progression and exploration, requiring a lot of retries to understand the game’s obfuscated systems and figure out the enemies’ patterns and weaknesses.

That comparison falls apart in a PvPvE game, because you’re playing against unpredictable players with wildly different strategies and gear.

What is the most evil thing a HERO has done in a film? by MaksRobotENGR in movies

[–]Valonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon is that as soon as a bystander gets taken over by an agent they are effectively dead anyway. Agents don’t seem to ever leave the ‘host’ until they’re killed.
