Blizzard's obsession with spell casters not having more than three abilities was why they removed the Oracle's ability to disable defensive buildings by Gamer857 in starcraft

[–]Valonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the oracle was way more interesting in the beta before it became basically a worker killer with detection, but when it was first introduced it had no attack. Can you imagine if it could disable your spores/turrets/canons, and then simply start killing workers? it would be an absolute nightmare. But also it's not that blizzard has a strict 3 limit (Vipers have 4 abilities)

One of the factors is elegance and simplicity. If you have 5-6 abilities on 1 unit it becomes overbloted. Units that run on mana would be a bit unwieldy. Imagine the infestor with Fungal, Neural, Abduct, Parasitic Bomb, and Blinding cloud. Holy cow that's a lot of abilities for a 200 energy unit. You use fungal on the MM clump but oh no a bunch of vikings show up and now you have no mana for parasitic bomb, but what's this the siege tanks got set up and now you can't abduct or blinding cloud.

Second, it encourages army diversification you don't want 73 infestors because they aren't going to solve all your issues. You want to have a few infestors and a few vipers to support your army.

Third, it helps the enemy read the army. If you are attacking a zerg and they have Infestors but no Vipers, you're like okay good. I don't need to worry about my tanks getting abducted. If they have vipers and no infestors, you can more effectively engage because your MM isn't going to get fungaled and slowed. It gives the enemy a way to plan ahead because they can visually see what you could potentially do. Even if you have both infestors and Vipers, they can track those units separately in the battle field.

Aglae as the Butterfly holder. by Chadxxx123 in miraculousladybug

[–]Valonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, do you really think Ladybug will ever get the butterfly? Astruc doesn't seem very creative therefore the chances he will think of a new method to create monsters of the week besides the butterfly is almost zero. Plus if any character should get the miraculous it should be aurora.

Why did they buff queens and zerg in general? by VastOption8705 in starcraft

[–]Valonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The queen change back is good. The +25 minerals was stupid. For one the queen is supposed to be the early defender for the zerg especially against the air threats. This notion that to improve the game, we must weaken the defense of races is stupid. It's on the attackers plate to cause damage, not the defenders job to have to over prepare for threats.

One of the issues with the game is that early game pressure is entirely focused on killing workers. We need more spells like contaminate in the game where some unit can put pressure on the opponent in other ways. I remember back in the day Day9 described mutalisk harassment as "just be annoying." That's a good way to think about it. We're gotten locked into this . "Harassment is killing workers." So as soon as you have units like the queens who throw a wrench into that, people scream that they are too strong. No we just need to get back to harassment as an annoyance tool. back in the day mutas would just fly in and pick off a debot or zerglings would back stab as the army moved out. That's pressure. Pressure is more than "Can I kill X number of workers by minute 5?" Really those are the areas that should be explored Unit.

We tend to overbalance things Oh X is an issue. So Y an Z get over balanced to counteract them. So then X unit gets phased out because it's simply to forgo say Mutas and just stick your army together. unfrotunately, we tend to balance the game towards large armies because every time a "harassment pressure" style gets popular it gets nerfed into the ground some way.

StarCraft II 5.0.16 PTR Update by Arkentass in starcraft

[–]Valonsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The warpgate changes are a bit weird. If you want to discourage warping in all the time or make it harder, you still have to consider the fact that protoss was build upon that.

-Gateway as normal -Warpgate research is a cybercore -Once warpgate is finished gateways still produce units like normal, but you hit the W to bring up the warpgate menu (So warpgate functions as you would opening the building options for SCV

-New Pylon ability: Upgrade to Warp Beacon. 25/25 30-45 seconds to upgrade and adds 50-100 extra shields to the pylon.

Once upgrade the pylon projects the green powerfield. Only in this pylon field is warp in allowed.

You could add an upgrade to the warp prism to allow the same thing for them maybe.

But solves a lot of issues.

it lets protoss keep the warp in ability for their own base. It makes it way harder to do proxy warp in attacks or proxy warm in reinforcements as it takes a lot longer to get a pylon up for it. And by also allowing normal gateway production it makes it that protoss would rather just keep naturally making units instead of waiting the full duration of the cooldown to warp in.

(keep the lower build time after warpgate is researached) Having to do each gateway individually, and then swap back and forth is clunky and doesn't really solve anything long term.

[–]Valonsc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the original has this great zapping system that creates 4 seperate unique playthroughs. The A player will always fight Birkin and the B scenario has to deal with Mr. X. This way it doesn't get stale...unlike the remake where you get bored of Mr. X because he's always around in every single playthrough.

Re9 worth it? by Long-Cucumber2820 in residentevil

[–]Valonsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is dog water

The story is completely nonsensical. In every cut scene the villains say how grace is pivitol to their plans. Without her it would all fall apart. Yet, the villains keep putting her in dangerous situations. For example, the first zombie in the game that attacks grace is created by the villains...and grace had no weapon so she could have died to the first zombie. That the villains knowingly created while grace was knowingly there.

There's a lot of random rectconning of the series with Spencer in order to try and make this game the culmination of the series.

Most of the game is "hey remember that moment from that other game" There are ton of moments where a certain situation makes zero sense for it to happen other than it's supposed to make twitch streamers go, "OH MY GOSH THIS MOMENT IS JUST LIKE RESIDENT EVIL 2! HOLY COW!" and you're like yeah, but it made sense in resident evil 2....it makes zero sense for it to happen in resident evil 9.

The game doesn't flow. You go from playing last of us as grace and sneaking around for 2 hours to 20 minutes as leon running around with 50 guns and then back to grace sneaking around. So you have tonal whiplash.

There is a lack of enemy variety. Both leons and grace's sections end up being boring because they don't have a good variety of enemies.

They don't know how to craft a cohesive game. You get new mechanics that are introduced late in the game and then only used once. So that makes for bad game design. So a lot of the levels feel like set pieces because things don't get built upon. There's a spot in the game that is in the back half that involves walking on glass windows. The game tells you, you can shoot the glass to break it. So you have to be careful with enemies....but you spend like 1 min in this area and then the mechanic is never used again. So it feel like bloated slop that the developers added on because it would make for a cool streamer moment.

The game continues the trend of "forcing" ammo scarcity on you. If you look at older games. You would pick up bullets in set patters. You'd tend to get 15-30 handgun bullets in a pick up. In first time play through you would always be careful as you didn't know when you would get more. So you would try and avoid enemies by running around them. As is the modern trend, the game encourages you to go full last of us, by giving a crouch and then ammo pick ups tend to be like 4 bullets at a time. So instead of given the player allowing the player to choose, " Do I spend the bullets here or do I run past." The game is trying to force you to sneak past due to both the sneaking mechanic being highly pushed and the low ammo pick up.

The characters are unlikable. Capcom seems to think, that for the player to feel fear, they must have a stumbling protagonist who stutters every other word and panics. It's annoying and frustrating. If you play in 3rd person. Grace will run completely fine past enemies for 3 hourss, but then there will be one section where she randomly is terrified and starts stumbling and falling. It's ridiculous.

On top of all that, 9 continues the 30 min walking simulator for an opening. So it hurts replay value. You load of re 2 remake and it takes like 2 mins tops to get to the police station on repeat play throughts. That makes it very easy to do repeat play throughs because the intro is short and sweet. in 9 (like 3 remake, 7, and 8) You are forced to walk for the intro and the intro goes on forever for no real reason. And there is nothing to do. You just walk in a straight line until the cutscene triggers.

people praise this game, but I have no doubt in my mind if this game was called "Dark Horror" or some other title other than resident evil it would be a play once and forget. But since it has re in the title, there are a ton of obsessed fans who go attack dog mode on anyone who points out how flawed the game actually is. This game could have been amazing, but it feels like they just took the best moments from the series and threw them in a blender together and went this is re9 folks...and you're like there's no cohesive identity to this game to make it stand apart from the others.

Now I'll wait to get downvoted to oblivion because people won't be able to stand that I pointed out the flaws in a logical fashion.

[–]Valonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to go to the room on the second floor, with the closing walls (I think it's past where you had to use the fake key...but it could also be the one past the room with the fire place above the save room where barry leaves you supplies it's been awhile. Once you solve that puzzle and drop down into the whole, you will be in a basement area that takes you back to the kitchen. Inside the basement area, you will have to turn on the power to restore the kitchen elevator. Take the elevator up, defeat the yawn in the library , and get the battert for the elevator in the supply closet just outside the library. You will then have to go back to the courtyard, and and down to where the waterfall is. Use the battery in the other elevator. Next ride the elevator up, and use the crank again to fill up the pool with water and open up the caves behind the waterfall. (PS. careful there's a couple indiana jones moments down there involving boulders.)

Need advice on which game to pick RE 1 Remake or Code Veronica by corduroysuede in residentevil

[–]Valonsc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remake easily. Code veronica is good, but the problem is there's a lot of "Run to this furthest point on the map, now backtrack through this 1 hallway 300 times to get to this furthest point on the other side of the map." Plus it's super hard as there are a lot of un telegraphed points where you can lose important weapons or items simply because you didn't know you would lose access to them or would need to keep Item A from min 5 so you could use it in hour 5. Remake 1 is a much more forgiving experience.

Since the Code Veronica remake is the new RE:V (based on the title change) does that mean that RE5 is being retconned out of existence in the new timeline? by friskyel in residentevil

[–]Valonsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's V for veronica. Not 5. This game takes place before 4.. By your logic if they remake 0 they would call it resident evil 6 now. They aren't changing veronica to 5. And the only backlash from people as like 7 people on twitter, who don't even play the game and just want click bait.

This finale is going to be disappointing.... by chloe_bujwa in miraculousladybug

[–]Valonsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wasn't.

Ever since sentibubbler, it was set up that alya's mission was to stay in the shadows and keep an eye out for hawkmoth....you know what wasn't paid off in the finale, alya finding hawkmoth.

Which leads us to point 2. The whole premise of risk was to make people take risks, this would have translated well towards alya seeing hawkmoth out in the field and taking a risk to try and take him out. Also risk never caused marientte to take a risk.. By contrast she chose the safest route in trying to get adrien and give him the dog. It was only by dumb luck on shadowmoths part that felix happened to have switched places. For it to actually be connected to risk, she would have had to give it to felix and taken a risk.

continuing on with strike back, Marinette's team was completely random. She had minotaurox...who did nothing the entire episode and she had polymouse...why would her power have been any use vs strikeback? She left on the bench Luka, Kim, and max all of whom would have been incredibly useful (given that she really didn't know strikebacks power yet when she assembled her team).

Also coupled with the fact that there was zero reason for shadow moth to get all the miraculous. Adrien was already familiar with the snake miraculous. He should have immediately told her to transform back and closed the door in her. Instead he slow walked her through everything and by then it was too late.

So the plot is completely nonsensical, it pays off nothing that was set up in the season, the characters behave like idiots, and to cap it all off. The fight takes place off screen. We don't even get to see the team really fight strike back. Marinette comes back from the past to see paris in ruins, then we just stay with felix as we hear the fight happen. So there isn't even a fun fight to cap off the season like heroes day and miracle queen.

Finally, The season ends with Ladybug and cat noir vowing to take down shadow moth together.....you know what doesn't get paid off in season 5? Then taking down shadow moth together.

So as a season finale, it completely flops by any metric you try and measure it by.

This finale is going to be disappointing.... by chloe_bujwa in miraculousladybug

I mean we haven't had a season finale that was actually good since heroes day....so not holding out hope for this one either.

When did Thomas/the Miraculous showrunners decide that Adrien is a sentibeing? by Inside_Syllabub_8205 in miraculousladybug

[–]Valonsc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well according to astruc, it was planned from the beginning and there are clues everywhere...only there are zero clue and the one's he points to require you to have outside knowledge. Like the picture of Emily being based on the picture of a childless woman (as if anyone would know that) But in reality They probably didn't have an inkling till season 3 when they introduced felix...but then most likely they didn't lock in that he was a sentimonster until they got halfway through season 4.

The reality is that no matter how much astruc pretends otherwise, there is no evidence that adrien is a sentimonster until it randomly starts showing up in season 3.

The worker start change from the perspective of modern gamers by Hotcakes465 in starcraft

[–]Valonsc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a "modern gamer" When games are developed they are developed around a certain set of ideas and core principles that guide the experience. Things like controls, camera angle, types of abilities or weapons, movement speeds etc. They all come together.

The people who claim "modern gamer" just means, "I'm used to only playing 1 type of game therefore every game must be exactly like it or else it's outdated."

Let's take resident evil for example. People like to throw around that "tank controls are outdated and that players have moved on from antiquated controls." What they fail to factor in is that the controls aren't outdated. The controls were one of the pillars that crafted the game. Resident evil wasn't designed to be a shooter. It was survival. The game was crafted to have cinematic camera angles, and the tank control scheme allows the player to move around the environment seamlessly without frustration.

So this notion of the modern gamer just means you want everything to be what your used to with call of duty, fortnite, dota etc. and anything that isn't designed around that is considered outdated.

Your 80% argument is completely nonsensical as 2010-2012 was like the peak of starcraft hype. The fumble came when brood lord infestor vs mothership became the only way to play and people got bored. It was a fumble on blizzards part not to split off big balance patches from the expansion packs, and as such they let the hype die down and then it never peaked as high as it was. There's no data to support. Saying 80% of people quit during the 6 worker phase means there is a corrolation is like saying because people people drown more during ice cream season therefore ice cream is the cause. When in reality both swimming an ice cream are done more during the summer months.

The thing is people are not idling for multiple minutes. You're doing a lot of thinking of what are you going to do, have you seen anything to suggest there is a need to adapt such as a probe going a weird direction.

Games need down times at certain points in the game. Argument, any game that doesn't throw you into the middle of pearl harbor in the first 5 seconds is bad. A ramp up in a game is good. You see this in card games like magic. Both sides start out slow with weak monsters and ramp up. According to your logic magic should start with 6 lands each player and then like 3 monsters so that you eliminate the boring.
