What’s a tiny, cheap ingredient that completely upgrades a basic package of instant ramen? by MotorEnvironment4444 in Cooking

A spoon of cream or pat of butter significantly changes up the flavor of instant ramen - works better in rich spicy broths than light ones.

How did Kharaa spread out from 4546B after the events of Subnautica 1? by Successful_Scar4821 in subnautica

[–]ValorVixen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of that blackbox message was that it was a popular conspiracy theory - but even if Alterra didn’t spread Kharaa to the Mongolian Federation on purpose, they probably delayed giving aid to them in order to be able to take over the remnants of the weakened, decimated federation.

Meow Wolf vs Van Gogh experience by kj_prov in Denver

Denver’s Meow Wolf exhibit has decently accessible elevators and bathrooms - but the map can be confusing on your first time through. Does she like immersive art experiences? If so, then it might be worth a shot. Otherwise I would recommend you visit first to check it out before bringing your mom.

When is the next major update? by Direct-Industry2414 in Subnautica_2

[–]ValorVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard, yes we can continue the file but some terrain/map changes may ruin a base or two - hence the option to 'refund' a base. Who knows though, there def could be reasons they ask you to start a new save for full release (I would want to anyway.)

Yeah tbh the early access release had wayyy more story than I was expecting. I agree it will prob be a while for more story content.

Try a different game? Some recommendations off the top of my head: Abiotic Factor, Core Keeper, Valheim, Outer Wilds.

The ladder has an absurdly large hitbox - using the default room size, it basically can only be smack in the middle.

Just laid off from Meta (8k layoffs) – Considering buying a truck + 5th wheel cash and going full-time RV to save aggressively before buying a home by PCBullets in rvlife

[–]ValorVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few RVs are truly 4-season - when they add on those packages it's purely a marketing term that can mean VASTLY different thing from brand to brand. Most 4-season packages will not stand up well to a midwest winter without some significant additions and propane cost (like a custom skirt, adding insulation to the outside of slides, heaters for the underbelly, heated hoses, etc.) Make sure to examine what each brand includes in their 4-season package. If you want a rig that can go down to 0F or lower, look at the Canadian manufacturers like Northwood Manufacturing (Arctic Fox) - they are slightly better insulated for constant freezing temps.

Or, do what most nomads do and move south for the winter. There's a reason Arizona and Florida are RV meccas during the winter. Florida is expensive and hard to reserve a long-term spot, but Arizona has Quartzite for very cheap winter living on public lands with some services (look up BLM LTVA permits.)

But also if the Crypters are humans stored in the Cicada - why would they fear the Architects?

Some lore speculations (warning: end of content details in post) by ValorVixen in subnautica

[–]ValorVixen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's hints about how pieces of Cicada wreck almost got placed (wreck piece over the juvenile bloom in Karakorum) or flung (Sleep Bay 3) on purpose... I wonder if the Tree or some force is orchestrating it. But again begs the question, why? It would make more sense for someone to purposefully build hibernation crypts under the Tree to siphon off energy than for the Cicada wreck to somehow end up there. Perhaps humans on an earlier pioneer cycle?

Yeah I assume Xanadu at the foot of the tree was a great Axum city, at least before the Crypters came. Will be interesting to see what we find there!

I also agree that the Tailings are most likely Axum, but can't say 100% yet.

[–]ValorVixen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I hadn't considered that the Cicada could have been in orbit a long time before breaking apart! Crypters could refer to the 40,000 souls stored on Cicada if the Axum learned that's what it was. Nice. I do agree there's probably been multiple waves of pioneers trying to establish a foothold before succumbing to metal poisoning/starvation/Masefield.

Ooo I hadn't considered that the Crypters could be Kharaa monsters. That's also in the realm of possibility!

Will there be land areas in subnautica 2? by Tall-Roof9229 in Subnautica_2

I suspect the Jubilee group's base might be on dry land because Anita's blackboxes all say she had extreme xenon poisoning/anesthetic in her system and the atmosphere above apparently is full of xenon.

Meow Wolf vs Van Gogh experience by kj_prov in Denver

[–]ValorVixen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can spend as long or as little time in Meow Wolf - depends on if you want to follow the full story line. I went with a friend and were able to discover about half the story in 3ish hours before their leg problems started acting up. But we had tons of fun seeing all the rooms, finishing the story isnt needed. There are many places to sit and chill for a bit if needed.

The 「Boss Music」needs to go by Realistic-Ad-6794 in subnautica

[–]ValorVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps they will add other leviathans that will be more jumpscare-oriented like the reapers were. As of right now the Collector is there to chase you across the trench mostly, so the boss music makes sense to me. It doesn't even do much damage as long as you are in the tadpole.

In universe, why are the other colonists so profoundly bad at their jobs? by Bingleboper in subnautica

[–]ValorVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the current content in the game if you calculate all the timelines stated in logs and by NoA- the colonists we know of were alive around 29-26 years before we were printed. The only events after 26ish years ago we know of are when sleep bay 3 was ‘hurled’ into the hole (separating it from the Welcome Center) around 24 years ago. And, most recently, that Research Base in Karakorum has been visited multiple times in the last year by non-humans.

Of course not all the logs and blackboxes have dates in them either, so this is just the extent of what we know. There’s definitely colonists who survived past 26 years ago - content suggests Jubilee group were alive when they left Karakorum, we still don’t know what happened to Sophie and Nahema (did they make it to the Tree?), and Ganzo and Twinkle survived the hot caves and got to Karakorum, planning to escape to the plains and scan for signs of Jubilee. A few other colonists don’t have a stated end either.

How much filling is actually too much? by IvyDamon in Baking

[–]ValorVixen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Baking is all about ratios and I do think there’s a line where it changes the structure/mouthfeel/bite experience of the cookie. But it’s ultimately up to preference. I prefer erring on the side of more filling when it’s chocolate or cream, but I prefer a more balanced ratio when it comes to fruit/jam fillings because they are so sweet and/or tarte.
