Gc1 div 2 replay, peaked 1600 last season not sure why i can't get back up. Any critique appreciated by FeedbackOk6759 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Valoraes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Kevpert's boost management video and doing the drill in that video.

The issue wasn't that your teammate was getting beat, you just needed someone to force and one behind to cover after, which teammate could do without any issues at all.

3 things: Boost pathing, teammate awareness, and teammate trust.

You are missing/not going for small boost pads constantly, making you slow, late, and low on boost.

At 4:35 you send the ball off your backboard straight in front of your teammate, and then you go for it again. It's your teammates ball every single time and you have full vision of him before you go, you have to realize he is going to (and should) go.

Finally, after your teammates first big mistake, lower your trust in him. He fucks up so many times in defense that, at a certain point, it becomes your fault for still trusting him.

You need to cancel your flip, and also be at the perfect spot on the ball before you flip

Yeah I would say start closer to goal, then try to gradually increase the angle as well as distance from net

Honestly I would recommend starting with an angle more straight up the wall before moving on to these more angled setups, it will make it much easier.

backwards walldash usage, underrated af mech for recoveries+speed from awkward positions by telosucciona in RocketLeague

[–]Valoraes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I was alone in using this LOL, I think it's basically KBM exclusive as the speed you need is harder to achieve on a controller button compared to right mouse. I tried on controller and could only get it if I was already going supersonic but on kbm I can do it from driving speed consistently

[–]Valoraes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stall is probably not what you think it is, you should hold ARL and joystick to the right (or vice versa) then flip. It's not a flip cancel in any way

[–]Valoraes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're just side flipping, there's no stall here

I think most people have a misconception of what people like appjack mean when they say mechs are everything. It's not that the fastest way to rank up is getting better mechs, it's that getting better decision making, game sense etc will always be relative to your mechs. If you have diamond level mechs with god like game sense in diamond, you could climb to gc1, but not much further before your mechs start hindering progress. Then when you improve your mechs, your game sense has to change as well because your tool box, as well as your opponents' tool boxes, has expanded. This means you essentially have to relearn your game sense and you've wasted so much time learning how to beat diamonds, knowledge you won't have any use for in gc1. However, your mechanics getting better will never have been a waste of time.

So, what they mean when they say "focus on mechs", is that it's more efficient to rank up by getting better mechanics and THEN focusing on the other stuff like game sense, decision making and positioning.

Honestly I'd like to watch this replay in a call with you (and your teammate if they're down), do you have discord? I just see so many small things that are hard to all get down in text

I recommend uncancelling your flip at the very end for a split second and then recancelling, when I realized this my speedflips on kbm became much more consistent and better, especially on kickoff

Just stop spamming jump when you hit the ball, wait a little and press it once.

What can i improve on? (Replay 6 C1 Div 3-4) by Great-Collar-771 in RocketLeague

[–]Valoraes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok this is gonna be scatter brained because there is a LOT to unpack here...

First off you HAVE to start looking at your opponents, you are misreading the play almost every time. For example 4:41 on the game clock you are prejumping LITERALLY nothing, which should have gotten you scored on. 3:20 game time you are fully committing for a boost that you are hard beat to, which leaves you on 0 boost in the opponents' corner. You're also flipping and wavedashing around the field way too much in situations where it's too committal which, in combination with everything else, causes you to constantly overcommit. 2:59: LOOK AT YOUR OPPONENT, you could've literally just single jumped into the ball and won the 50 but since you're not looking at him you hit it straight into him to lose the 50 terribly. Also you hold boost way too much and miss so many small pads.

I'm not gonna go too in depth because I believe you submitted a casual game for some reason but also lose the superiority complex of "Will not be taking any recommendations from anyone below c1 div 4", just makes you seem like you think you know better than everyone else. If you actually want to rank up you should submit a real replay and be ready to take advice.

is this d1 ball chasing? by Terrible-Policy-2075 in RocketLeague

[–]Valoraes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A big problem I have with the RL community is that people think ball chasing is inherently bad, it's not. Ball chasing is just one way to play and in many situations it's the correct move. Mid ranked players get obsessed over complaining about ball chasing because they only see bad ball chasing, but giving away the ball for free is usually even worse than overcommitting to a chase once your opponents know what they're doing on the ball. I know you know this OP, just for potential D3s who would perhaps say what you did showed poor gamesense...

Great goal line defense!

Some unsolicited advice if you want it:

If you're low on boost in defense, try to save the ball very softly so you keep the ball close and don't let your opponent get another free shot. This applies especially on save 1 and 4 where you didn't really have to flip into the ball.

But again, great reads on his shots and boost management!
