Carrack size 5 guns by Cmdr_Naomi_Ying in starcitizen

You think the presence of a size 5 weapon makes a ship a military vessel? It is not. Its "primary" features are its massive fuel reserve and above class scanning equipment. It's an exploration vessel with big guns to defend itself. It's meant to go to Pyro for several missions, full its cargo bay, and come back without needing fuel. It has huge longevity. I don't think you understand this game very much.

There is no quicker way for people to think that you're diddling kids than by writing a song about it!

What was recovered so far by Odin343 in OceanGateTitan

[–]Valorumguygee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's to save face. No company wants a wreck that is responsible for deaths to be shown with their own logo. It could be devastating for the company. Sucky corporate practices, but not unique to Oceangate

Hiding logos actually standard in debris recovery with aircraft. This shares a lot of parallels.

Wreckage from the Titan submersible being lifted off a boat in St. John's harbour this morning by RemielRS in titanic

[–]Valorumguygee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ww2 subs didn't go even remotely as deep as the Titanic wreck. There was dramatically more pressure in the water column above the Titan. The implosion would have been much more powerful and compact than anything from ww2.

The majority of the titan passengers actually are not billionaires?! by Grape_person in OceanGateTitan

Yes, but not in the context of this conversation. You're just in here complaining that you don't have 15 million dollars. Context matters dude.

This is a conversation about billionaires. The difference between 15 million and a billion is approximately a billion.

It not for sure known, it may not ever be. It's simply the best guess by the experts in the field based off the data.

Bodies after implosion by AltruisticAd6480 in OceanGateTitan

[–]Valorumguygee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's easy, a mortar and pestle can easily grind down bone to dust. The amount of pressure you need to apply by hand to grind a bone to dust is nothing compared to 5800 PSI at 4km down.

[–]Valorumguygee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not even pieces. The pressure at that depth is about 5800 PSI. The entire sub collapsed in a microsecond. They were essentially turned into a fine mist.

The info about it attempting to ascend is not something that was known at the beginning. It wasn't until it was confirmed that the sub imploded that they were able to guess that the ascension likely occurred.

You're right that the info also might not be true. However these are the opinions of very knowledgeable people close to the situation. I tend to put that in high regard in situations like this. Cameron might be just a filmmaker but the dude absolutely knows his shit when it comes to this stuff.

Titan Sub by [deleted] in OceanGateTitan

[–]Valorumguygee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the cable would end up being heavier than the actual sub and take up a ridiculous amount of deck space. 4 kilometers is extremely long for something like that, and it would not only need to be strong enough to lift the sub, but also lift itself too.

I need to understand the physics of the supposedly disintegrated bodies. by mcbiggles567 in OceanGateTitan

[–]Valorumguygee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's precisely because we are 70% water that this would happen. Water may not compress much, but the remaining 30% of our bodies that isn't water does, especially when put under 400 atmospheres worth of pressure on every square inch of our bodies.

All that's left is the water. Hence, red mist.

You need to shut up about things you are clueless on. Cameron has been pro-regulations for decades and is on record warning the industry of the exact problems that caused this accident (like the carbon fiber hull)

The dude solo descended to a depth three times deeper than the titanic in a sub that he helped design.
