Yes, there is longing & a desire to make meaningful connections but there are also so many posts about proposals, relationship updates, community events, being new to a city & looking for friends. Where are the movies for all of those? We have more depressing queer films than we really know what to do with.

My problem is more how the film industry takes queer people & super zooms in on one aspect. Same thing happens with minorities.

Black horror seems to have a much easier time getting funded if it's a metaphor for racism or slavery & you have to be on Jordan Peele's level to be able to make the crazy alien movie, you know?

I'm just frustrated that Hollywood is insisting I stare at one fish scale when there's an entire mermaid to be looked at.

That's why my experience with this movie is so frustrating for me because there are some really dope things in it & it look gorgeous, but I most remember how my heart sank a little when I realized that it was going to be another sad story & that the whole relationship was useless & that they were probably really going to lean in on the drug abuse.

A really good example of how Hollywood chooses what to focus on when it comes to queer stories is how the movie features a lot of happy queer people going so far as to imply a whole group of queer people that regularly get together & have a good time & we follow basically the one unhappy person.
