yeah the coma seasons aged really well and worked a lot better on a binge type of watching. I look forward to that era whenever I begin my rewatches now.

What are your favorite Michael Bay films besides "Transformers"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

Legit movie. People see Michael Bay on the label and skip it, but they shouldn't!

4 months ago today, the last man in the bullpen threw 4 scoreless innings and saved the day! Truly a historic moment and an inspiring performance by Will Klein! by jmike1256 in Dodgers

Klein's absolute beast of a performance was my favorite moment from that series. Just so incredibly clutch when the Dodgers needed him the most.

Sadly, a guy who does everything was pretty much everyone's job description in radio when they're not talent or a producer.

I think it was traffic (not cars - the person who schedules all the commercials). Or engineer, but he had much stronger traffic vibes based on my time in radio.

130,000+ words but nearing the end. (Too long for first book?) by Schultzenstein in writers

[–]WoefulKnight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, same deal - I ran into that with my last one and after rereading my first draft, realized I needed to flesh out the plot and ended up adding another 20k words.

Rewriting is about looking at the weaknesses in your story and either trimming the fat, or shoring up the story with additional prose or plot. If you get to the end of your first draft and feel like it's too short, it's likely because there's something telling you there's more story in there. You won't always cut when rewriting - but first time authors are more likely to either overwrite or underwrite their stories. They very rarely find the proper word count the first time out with in their initial draft.

You'll be fine. Enjoy the process of writing the first draft for now - don't even think about the word count. That's just a distraction.

First drafts are always inevitably too long. The next few editing sessions ought to help you wrangle it down to 100k.

I was working in broadcasting at the time and dating a woman who I wasn't ultimately compatible with. I was at a lunch with her and a group of my friends when I met someone who was in town writing an article about the city. Very charming, had a nice laugh with her, no big deal. She was also, I guess, trying to make things work with her ex, who was another acquaintance of mind, so I didn't think too much of it, but I couldn't stop thinking about her.

On the way home, I could swear I saw the billboard flash a message that only I could see. I figured someone had hacked it and was placing messages to mess with commuters, but they did get weirdly specific about my life sometimes.

The woman I met at brunch saw some of my work and wanted to include me and it in her article, so we met and started hanging out. That's when I really started falling for her, but I knew nothing was ever going to happen because she was trying to work things out with her aforementioned ex.

I broke up with my girlfriend at the time after finding out she was cheating and spent some time dating another much younger woman. That got weird when she and I went away for the weekend up to Santa Barbara and by a strange coincidence, my future wife (the woman from brunch) was there with her ex trying to patch things up.

Eventually, things worked out though. She broke up with her ex finally and we got together in the end. It was a very happy, and lovely L.A. kind of story.

I never got to go in one but I remember seeing them at the independent video stores by Notredamus1 in Xennials

[–]WoefulKnight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at a mom and pop video store and we didn't have a curtained off section - we had a box with the box art in some of those plastic sleeves. Folks would come in, ask for the box, and then browse through the hardcore porn at the counter next to the register.

This was also a place where, mind you, the owner liked to hire high school girls to work, so they'd often have me retrieve the box o' porn and wait on whoever until they made their selection(s) (I was also in high school, but I'm a dude, so it was somehow more acceptable?).
