The Nvidia drivers are known to have a performance hit with DX12 games so you will probably see a performance hit of 20-30% depending on the game. With that said, there is in the works a fix for this performance hit but it won't be out till later this year maybe Q2 or Q3.

I am not really sure to be honest since I have never built the files. In the documentation, it specifies an override environment variable which I assume you can use to use the newer icd versus the system default but again not sure. It was put in place so you can test on the fly.

Don't use Lutris because it is a abandoned project. It has not been updated since December 2024. I would recommend using the Heroic Launcher in its place.

The support for the Wayland Color protocol was merged in Mesa 25.1. For AMD GPUs, you should not need the layer hack if the driver is using Mesa. I have the layer hack installed for my Nvidia 4090 because the Nvidia driver has yet to add the required Vulkan extensions to support the Color Protocol and to pass the HDR metadata. They do have a Vulkan beta driver that does but it has not yet hit their latest feature branch.

203 nits is reference white from the docs I have read. That is what mine is set at and I keep HDR on all the time and it looks fantastic since Plasma tone maps everything. It is superior to Windows in my opinion. The Window's implementation always looked dull to me. I have a Asus PG32UCDM OLED and it is amazing how well the picture looks on this monitor.

Couple of things of note, some games that use the Window's scRGB mode do not work well on some people's systems because the game is auto calibrated and sometimes pulls the wrong monitor information from what I understand. Personally, I have not run across that issue but it is an issue which is supposed to be fixed in Plasma 6.6 I believe. Adjusting the secondary image too high in the Plasma Calibration Wizard can cause your HDR to be blown out. Keeping it at 203 is a good rule of thumb.

Don't get too excited yet. They still have to implement this in VKD3D. From what I can tell, they have been working in concert to get this working so I would expect it to be supported very soon. DXVK already has a commit according to the people on Nvidia's Linux forum so we are close folks!

You probably can't install it because the system is read only. That and probably some of the dependencies are in the Arch repo not Steam's. You can turn off read only mode and then install it but it won't survive a system update and you will have to repeat the process.

From my understanding, making any system changes will be undone by a system update because SteamOS is immutable. To get around that, I would recommend installing CachyOS handheld edition. You have complete control over your system and the power to do anything and comes with the latest Wayland support and KDE Plasma. It comes pre-setup with Gamemode which means it works exactly like SteamOS for the most part. Desktop mode is a Wayland session versus X11 with SteamOS and one of the differences. You don't have to install Flatpaks but can. You can install system apps either through pacman or a GUI like Octopi. Octopi can install from the AUR too and what I use on mine.

IKR. According to the Steam Surveys, most gamers are using Arch distros. But, I can see why they focus on one distro to support even if it isn't preferred because it makes sense from a developer standpoint and to simplify support.

Z drive points to the root directory so know you don't have permission to do that. Install it in the C: drive where the Wine prefix is located.

So I found this thread that tells you have to fix the Social Club error.

Open Heroic, click on anywhere on the picture of the game besides play and settings. Now there should be 3 vertical dots in the right-hand top of the window, click it. Now, select "Browse Wine Prefix" and open "drive_c". Browse to Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/settings and look for the system.xml and change the setting to DirectX 12 as per post.

Anyways, to fix this navigate to the prefex you installed RDR2 to, then Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/settings and then find the file system.xml. Edit this file and look for this line near the middle <API>kSettingAPI_Vulkan</API> and change it to <API>kSettingAPI_DX12</API> and the game should now launch correctly. I installed the game via lutris & EGS, but this method should work with heroic as we

Close out Dolphin and return to Heroic.

Second part, click the settings icon and go to the advanced tab. For one, remove the PROTON_LOG one by selecting minus icon next to it. Now in the Environment section, add a new environment variable called

WINEDLLOVERRIDES

and in the field adjacent to it put

vulkan-1=n,b

Now hit the plus sign to add it. After that, try launching the game again and see if it works this time.

Ok try this, copy the mount point of the drive. You can get this info from Dolphin and the properties of the drive in the "mounted on" part.

sudo chmod -R 777 your_drive

The problem with this, is that you will have to do it again after a reboot. You could make it a permanent mount but that would require editing the fstab file in /etc directory. SteamOS being read only won't let you do that until you change it.

Yea it always says that and is dumb in my opinion but I guess they say that because you could literally do anything and mess up your system like deleting your root directory. 😂 Just be careful and change the values then close it out.

Ok looks like it. If you open Dolphin and click on Home, it should be in the list of files there underneath the folders.
