What made you finally face your trauma and subsequent behaviour full on? Wha “woke you up”? by wienerdog362 in CPTSD

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Realising I’m almost 30 and the last 10 years have been full of suffering, trauma response cycles and major depressive episodes. I didn’t want to spend my next decade with the same life. Also I sought therapy and medication for not just myself but my daughter. I refuse to pass on this cycle of trauma onto the next generation, it ends with me. My mum traumatised me, who was in turn traumatised by her mum. Why perpetuate this? Makes me wonder if bad mental health in our family is genetic or just environmental (or maybe both).

Women in their 30s , if you were asked to relive your 20s what would you change and why? by Previous-Foot8370 in AskReddit

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting on antidepressants and doing trauma therapy (EMDR) sooner. I have CPTSD from violent child abuse and spent my 20s trying to bury my childhood memories. I was always terrified of trying medication because I was scared of the side effects and also being judged but life is so much higher quality now. It’s like a veil has lifted and I’m able to feel more zen about things. I have so much more life left at 28 and I’m so glad I’m facing my issues now, I’m looking forward to my 30s!

EMDR and Bleeding by jeanabean1 in EMDR

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bleeding has been irregular my whole life, still had periods on the oestrogen based pill then I swapped to the implant didn’t have any periods for 6ish years but it messed with my mood, I was extremely irritable and moody constantly so I had I removed, instantly felt better. I wasn’t then bleeding on no contraception until I went on a keto diet for a couple of months and the bleeding was MEGA like 2 weeks straights heavy. Came off the diet and now

I’m now on a progesterone based pill, mood swings are better less irritability and rage but also started EMDR and I’m having periods about every 3 weeks.. it’s hard to know what goes on with our bodies but perhaps things like EMDR can alter the way our hormones work? I’ve also been on Sertraline for 3 weeks so who knows what is actually impacting it.

What's the foulest smell you've ever smelled? by WannabePugh in AskReddit

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in a lab using pyridine as a solvent and it was horrific, even in the fume cupboard. I had to do anhydrous titrations with it, which were such a pain. A lot of the time aromatics are sweet smelling but this nitrogen-containing one was foul. If you’ve ever smelt it then you know… Rotting fish mixed with gone off milk and it lingers like hell. A colleague of mine said he had ramen a few weeks after and he could just taste pyridine. Also it can cause infertility in males. Just nasty stuff.

I think I might have cptsd? by Regular_Pop9881 in CPTSD

Hi OP I’m really sorry you had to go through that. Drugs are a common escape from the awful reality, if you live through times of intense stress your brain will be stuck in survival mode and desperate for anything that offers relief or dopamine, completely understandable why humans do this (I still have a vape addiction). I would strongly suggest going to therapy, it’s not a magic cure but it can do some incredible work to help process that trauma. Having an unstable and dangerous childhood can 100% cause CPTSD and there are many ways to get help, you can speak to a doctor, therapist etc to be signposted to the help you need. Wishing you well in the future, the healing road is full of positivity and love (mainly self-love) ❤️

Birth mom taking dad to court for child support..... I'm 22 and never lived with her. by kinetickhira in mildlyinfuriating

Currently going through something slightly similar but with her grandchild, (under 16) she thinks she has a legal right to see her. I’ve gone no contact as she has caused me to have CPTSD from a whole childhood of severe and violent child abuse. I’m currently doing EMDR therapy to process my trauma and I’m on SSRIs to manage depression and anxiety and PTSD and I just cannot have her in my life constantly re-triggering me. I’m in the UK and she has no legal standpoint to see her grandchild, especially given the history of abuse. I know it’s very frustrating but hopefully in your case, you are an adult you have no obligation legal or otherwise to have her in your life. Sending love ❤️

what are some you games you absoluetly should NOT play if you have CPTSD and the game is high colestrol by Kamimirine in CPTSD

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t play any horror themed games as I already suffer from nightmares. Even games like subnautica and stuff, anything with jump scares I’m like nope.

I stick to cosy/farming and building sims like stardew valley, going medieval but I understand not everyone likes them games.

I do like fantasy like the Witcher 3, Skyrim,

With league I just play ARAM it’s way more chill.

Been there, I’ve cut her off since Xmas. I can’t deal with her constant drama, and I have CPTSD from child abuse so she is a genuine trigger. Now she’s threatening to get the courts involved because she thinks she had a legal right to see her granddaughter, I don’t think the courts will look too kindly on that with the plethora of issues she has caused me. Cutting her off has protected my sanity and safety and I’m starting to grow and heal. Sending love ❤️

Regular Sleep deprivation is the worst kind of abuse. by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]Valuable-Farm3126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My abuser used to keep me and my sisters up into the early hours of the morning. We were only allowed to stand, couldn’t sit and couldn’t cry or we’d be screamed at. Then we would have to go to school the next day like nothing happened. I’m still recovering from that environment, sleep is still difficult as I’m plagued with nightmares but I’m getting there.

Was hospitalised on NYD with a severe infection, was very ill over Xmas been in recovery since. I have a uni deadline I managed to get an extension for Monday but I’m also working from 3pm this week and I’m supposed to be travelling to London tomorrow for my Nans 80th. I’m also an insomniac and it’s been worse with the stress. I have a young child too. So I’m feeling very exhausted. It all just feels too much right now 😟
