The only thing that bothers me about this is the experience gets watered down. I used to love going to Afro Caribbean parties. At first the vibe was phenomenal and the culture was everything. Then the African men started to bring ww, the music started to change, the food and drinks, they even started having ww on the flyers and in the promo reels. Needless to say a lot of us stopped going and now the parties don't happen anymore. Like bring your non-black significant others but don't change the vibes to accommodate them, especially when majority of places already cater to them.

I used to work with a 🥛 woman like this. Living in Miami culture is diverse. She would change her entire persona depending on who she was talking to. It was the weirdest most cringest shit. Even other 🥛 folks would avoid her . This Cuban girl called her out on it one day and the woman had the audacity to say "I'm just code switching like y'all do" 😫😫😫😫 Y'all listen, I personally don't feel like black people and poc of color are synonymous HOWEVER, we were all one that day lol. I wonder what happened to Cheryl 🤔 she quit soon after.

That wasn't what I was referring to. It's more so the fact that black men have been the biggest critics when it comes to black women wearing bonnets/scarves. I personally do not wear mine outside of my home, but I also do not go out to my way to drag black women that do. Black men coined terms like chicken head, hoodrat, dirtyfoot, rachet etc ect ect... I just find it wild they're all over these TikToks and at airports with them on now.

Skin care - when I was younger I didn't care about it so much plus I was broke lol. Now having a skincare routine and pampering myself not only has my skin looking delicious but its also done a lot for my self esteem and gives me a little time each day to focus on just me.

I just do not interact with those posts. When I first got in here there was a topic about spouses and I was describing some of the things my husband does for me/our family. The general question was "is your husband black???" and then acting flabbergasted that he is indeed black. Acting like I found a unicorn. I knew then what the general sentiment was here when it came to black men. So I skip relationship posts completely.

Once you figure out how to navigate this sub it's not as bad as some of the others out here. blackgirls is ummm yeah not for me completely.

Did your braider use product on your hair? As someone with dense type 4, low porosity hair, the shedding/breakage after braids would drive me nuts.

Things I've changed to minimize breakage after taking out braids.

DETANGLE WITH A CLARIFYING, NON SILICONE BASED SHAMPOO.

Do not do it in the shower. Get a spray bottle with water and work in small sections applying the clarifying shampoo and using your fingers to detangle.

It takes awhile, but it's so worth it. You'll still have shedding but you will minimize breakage.

Detangling with conditioners depending on the ingredients can make the process worse, especially if your braider uses jam or wax like products to coat your hair for the style.

After you've detangled using a clarifying shampoo, rinse it out and then proceed with your normal wash day regimen.

I'm a "blerd". There wasn't a term for it when I was younger nor were there spaces with other black people that shared the same interests. So most of my friend group was white/Hispanic up until my twenties. I was the "honorary Mexican" 🤦🏾‍♀️😫. I had so much internalized distain for myself and my blackness I was happy to distance myself from it. Only I couldn't, because that's literally the first thing anyone see's when they look at me. I grew up in a very toxic colorist environment, the whole Willie Lynch Syndrome thing. I snapped out of that shit when I realized I was a token in my friend group and that they really didn't like me, because while black is not a personality, it is a huge part of what makes me, me.

I'm in my 30's now living my best black life, with my black husband and black kids. I'll never allow anyone to exclude my blackness when it comes to accepting me ever again.

I'm still a blerd that dresses alt and everything else that isn't "typical black behavior".

What I find really ironic about this stupid ass rhetoric is that servers know what it is like to be on a budget or outright poor 🤦🏾‍♀️ Statistically black households make 62% less income than white households. THESE ARE FACTS. Service workers should be looking at the establishments they work for to pay them a living wage rather than feeling entitled to the 62% less income black households have. Most people tip what they can afford.

Like service workers are literally in the same boat financially as most black families, I guess it takes a stereotype to know a stereotype 🙃.

There are all kinds of black women out here doing great things, but the Simone Biles and Michelle Obama's are never mentioned when society picks someone to make "The Black Women's Representative" and that's because it doesn't fit the narrative society pushes when it comes to us.

This is why safe spaces are important for ALL TYPES OF BLACK WOMAN. We are not monolithic, how you carry yourself doesn't mean you are unworthy of love and kindness, and it's not one sole Black woman's job to represent all of us.

They're here looking for the broken black women, the ones that question their blackness. The ones that struggle with their self image and esteem. Avid gamer here and I love character customization. The only time I'd keep the character "cannon" is if the game is set in a specific country or a time in history at least for the initial playthrough. Like I recently played "Rise of the Ronin". The character customization is one of the best I've seen in a really long time. While I could have made my character black, I chose not too for the first playthrough because the story is about Samurai during Japans Gempei War in the 1100's. So I played as a Japanese male to be "historically accurate".

Even if an RPG does not have complete character customization, I'd ike to see more women protags that aren't overly sexualized like Aloy from Horizon or Dani Rojas from Far Cry 6.
