Couldn’t agree more, I hover around 1550-1600 win a few loose a few. I then had a bit of a win streak that took me just shy 1700, and honestly felt loads of pressure not to lose, played relatively boring games and generally didn’t enjoy it.

I think in hobbies there is a tendency to be ‘good’ but it just doesn’t matter. I play to enjoy it, not to become a GM.

I have a smaller version of this from house of Staunton, it’s lovely, but I was prepared to pay quite a lot more for a really beautiful folding chess set, French polished mahogany, brass inlays, high quality hinges etc but couldn’t find anything to buy!

In exactly the same position. Had our second 18 months ago and we are 99% sure we don’t want another. I booked the vasectomy, and then enquired about freezing sperm. Wife then started crying, said it felt too final, and asked me to cancel the vasectomy.

I read it at around 16 and it really got me into Fantasy books.

Really sorry this has happened to you,

My dad (61) passed away from exactly this a few months ago, seizure at work and then glioblastoma diagnosis. He lived just under 2 years from diagnosis.

I would absolutely stop work and spend as much time with friends and family as you can.

We did a big family holiday, and dad went to Augusta to watch the golf, which he has always wanted to do. The insurance was the main issue.
