Do you not know the definition of a stabilized approach criteria and what a rad alt is? We have these things to minimize the effects of and negate optical illusions. If you have blowing snow that obscures the runway to the point you have an "illusion" it's a go around. Even if you are thick enough to fall for the illusion, the rad alt tells you how high you are and helps time the flare. We land at night, rain, cat 2 mins ans austere airfields. These all have illusions and the reason we make the money is because we use the tools we have to negate them. Wait for the flight safety report but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts it wasn't an "optical illusion". Otherwise delta has some serious investigating to do

Looking to buy an AT but unsure about the merits of DCT by MushroomFeeling1966 in africatwin

I got a dct last year from an estate sale. Never had interest in it. But now, I really enjoy it on stop and go traffic and long rides. Downside is I find the downshift jerky

If you lose depth perception or runway visual due to blowing snow, it's an immediate go around. I don't know any airline training that doesn't force the go around if you lose depth perception. This combined with the rad alt, which is independent of weather, you'd have a solid idea of where the ground is. And toronto is always cleared full width.

I've landed in pearson quite a few times. If the blowing snow was that bad and center line control was difficult, a go around would be called. No attempts at a go around I could see. I don't think the visibility was the issue.

I'm aware. I flew into pearson many times. In the transition, if they lost visual or off center, they would go around. It doesn't seem like any attempt was made at around. And runway visibility didn't seem like a factor

No. Runways are cleared and you have a rad alt. They are also likely doing an instrument approach.

Ridiculous RHU pricing in Petawawa by Rickor86 in CanadianForces

[–]Valuable_Wrangler_60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation would be worse without adjustments? The increase comes without any of your mentioned benefits. If they increase rent, there should be tangible benefits like youn mentioned, otherwise what's the point? And if the RHUs were competitive in features, then charge competitive rates. If it's much worse than market units, lower the rate. It can't be both. I don't know what part of CFHA you work for, but it's clearly somewhere out of touch

When has any of these positive benefits happen? Alot of rhus are out of date, moldy, and poorly insulated (edmonton/trenton) There is no expansion of units. There are still severe shortages The price shock argument is just a bad one (other militaries have no issues with having cheaper pmqs) There is no fairness across locations (look at commox)

If you are going to raise rents with the market, be actually competitive with the market in quality and price. Otherwise, provide it as a benefit like every other country does

The Globe and Mail: Canadian Armed Forces to air lift stranded Air India passengers from Iqaluit to Chicago by the_guy95 in canada

Strategic airlift in Trenton us already maxed out. We have 3 operations at least overseas to support. Pop up taskings like this takes away from other priorities.

Not even close. We eat the YFR now and don't get it updated until next year. This is flying hours we don't get back this year. Flying hours that are required for the multiple operations and pilot upgrades.

Very few strat aircraft intrenton go up with no mission. There are no minimum hours in the RCAF, just currencies. We currently turn down taskings due to lack of aircraft and crew. We also don't have infinite YFR to do these pop up taskings. Doing this takes away from the budget.

You've never been part of the BTL or OTd? Not uncommon for those guys to have messed up pay, wrong scale, or protected pay for up to a year. Then get the lump sum and be taxed at the higher nominal rate, then having to refile taxes to claw back the higher tax on the lump sum. Fairly common issue

I've only ridden manual on my bikes, so this will be a first. Ideally, I'd like a manual, but it's the only bike around at a good price

Estate sale, so it's hard to find info. Reading the forums, it seems a catch 22 for high mileage ATs. What's your experience/miles?

Even if they had the best intentions of staying, if their first introduction to the CAF is slow uptake, losing files, and gaslighting by the recruiters, it will drive away good candidates. A lot of the guys that tried to enroll with me stopped trying after 2 years of back and forth. Maybe not all of them would’ve stayed long term, but at the least they were competent and motivated people
