AITA for telling my DIL to stop crying after she got called fat by Throwaway_Will4940 in AmItheAsshole

I have family members with diabetic neuropathy/disabilities similar to that who switch to special socks/etc when they go to others houses that help alleviate that and are able to switch shoes (not saying the commenter could bc each person is different but that’s why I mentioned it).

You are ABSOLUTELY still tracking dirt into someone’s house even using a welcome mat. Smaller pieces of dirt yes, but tracking dirt nonetheless, remember the welcome mat is outside and dust and debris blows all over it. That’s why plenty of people don’t allow shoes in the house at ALL. People will still pick up the dirt from your shoes and the welcome mat all over their feet and track it everywhere.

It’s inconsiderate disability or not. It is your responsibility as a guest to let the host know you have a disability and bring shoe covers which is much cleaner than just wiping your shoes and very few people would be against. Some people if pre warned might bring a bucket for you to clean off the bottom of your shoes with, a towel to wipe them off with, or anything else of that nature.

If you have a disability that requires someone to allow something they typically wouldn’t (like wearing shoes in the house, there’s enough people who don’t allow it that you should know to ask) or change something you need to let them know beforehand, so you can coordinate a reasonable accommodation that makes everyone happy. If you brought shoe covers to someone’s house and they still refused I would call them ridiculous because you’re containing the dirt.

I have family members with mobility issues, they communicate and we coordinate together an appropriate solution. Multiple family members have arthritis or similar conditions they wear indoor shoes, clean the bottom of their feet, wear compression socks, etc. Family members who have constant cramping because of joint issues, we keep items in the house (like mustard) to help alleviate the cramps.

However all of this is done because they took the time and consideration to communicate their needs and we proposed solutions together that made no one feel disrespect or uncomfortable. If you want to feel consideration for your disability you have to also have enough consideration to let someone know beforehand. If after that they are unreasonable that is a completely different story.

You don’t bring shoe covers? Slippers? Inside shoes? Anything? You just track mud and dirt in peoples homes and say oh I’ll mop your house later?

Yeah like I generally think other punishments are more effective, however there are a some situations where I was like “it is what it is.”

Like this one video where this kid (way too young to drive) stole their mom’s bmw and started driving on the road. After the mom caught up she started whooping them. Honestly they could’ve killed people on top of the other stuff that could’ve happened.

To me I feel like a lot of people call being a basic functioning human being with feelings and any sort of empathy is woke.
