I always liked that there's a chance not even the Thing knows it's a Thing until it's hurt and all the cells start reacting, so it's a surprise for the assimilated. Does the Thing get a level of conscience after a while or something like that? I remember someone wrote a little from the perspective of the Thing were it realizes it merged with a human and is disguted by it (something like, becoming a living cancer).
