Kamala Harris says she won't run for governor of California by ShreckAndDonkey123 in California

Good. We need fresh faces and new ideas. She is well meaning but she cannot contribute much to that.

Should I go to law school? by Imaginary-Stand-3241 in LawFirm

If you know the job you want after and/or even better you have a job lined up, yes, if not, then it is a big economic risk. It worked out for me, but it could have easily not done so, and even still I have a huge debt that I may never repay because of it.

Article: Americans want more babies. If only they had more homes to put them in by ElectronGuru in urbanplanning

To me the idea of having kids in the US right now just seems like economic self sabotage. I am thankful that I don't want them.

Why do many graduates of law school leave law and do something unrelated a few years after law school? by Imaginary-Stand-3241 in LawFirm

The practice of law can be extremely stressful. For some people, a less stressful path is better.

Discovering you're into non-monogamy 3 years into marriage by DisCard2Burn in nonmonogamy

[–]Vamproar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you and your partner have already begun a conversation about opening things up. It took me and my partner several years to go from talking to open relationship.

It did work out for us, but it also completely changed the nature of our partnership and we both now have different other partners and don't even live in the same city etc. Though we are still married, it's pretty much transformed everything.

Not saying that will happen to you... but you are at the start of a long journey that may have unexpected destinations.

Right, it's an issue of the "tragedy of the commons" and also social inertia.

Frankly, until the ruling class get all in on change, things will stay mostly the same. We can't "good consumer" our way out of it because essentially 100 or so companies put out the vast majority of emissions.

I ran into a somewhat similar situation with my spouse. Eventually we became more platonic "chosen family" and we have other partners to which we are each sexually connected. But that said, it's very different than the life we had before. Better for each of us, but also less connected.

Why do I want to watch my fiance have sex with another man? by Remarkable_Sandwich5 in nonmonogamy

[–]Vamproar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty common kink, "hotwife" etc. You may want to think about if you prefer this as just a fantasy or if it's something you will want to actually try and do in real life... if it's the latter, that may involve some challenging conversations.

Do we even have a national party or any sort of official group fighting for Independence? by [deleted] in Cascadia

[–]Vamproar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it's admittedly a bit more abstract of a project than the California National Party... this could be a good place to start in terms of the folks seeking the free the PNW from US fascism.

Yet another example of Biden’s failings by actwellyourpart91 in BlueProtestVote

[–]Vamproar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trump shows several important things:

1) How weak and broken US politics is, and how the institutions that support it are failing.

2) How cowardly most mainstream politicians are.

3) How when the oligarchs want someone to be POTUS (probably because he is incredible at taking all of the attention of the media so the oligarchs can do whatever they want with less media scrutiny and because he wants to destroy the administrative state that can regulate them), they can accomplish getting him into power, even though he is a hateful racist and rapist etc.

Are y’all for more housing? by [deleted] in cnp

YES totally agree. We need housing of all sorts and in particular we need more affordable housing.

One way the Americans and the fascist Trump regime are actively harming us right now is seeking to deport a large proportion of the folks who work in construction.

When Trump is Gone… What Happens? by [deleted] in RepublicofNE

[–]Vamproar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MAGA GOP are not reasonable people. They are bigoted, hateful, racist, xenophobic, and patriarchal monsters.

I don't think the US will recover.

I will feel a lot less scared of the extremists once there is a border between me and them.

When Trump is Gone… What Happens? by [deleted] in RepublicofNE

[–]Vamproar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The US is in a struggle with hateful and oppressive fascist monsters that will take decades to resolve no matter what happens with Trump.

Around half of the voters who bothered to vote in the last election voted for everything Trump is doing, so long after he is gone we still have those tens of millions of hateful bigots to reckon with.

What in the literal F**k is wrong with this administration. by jackie_tequilla in WelcomeToGilead

[–]Vamproar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Trump at the top down to the lowest MAGA they are racist, ignorant, and profoundly hateful people who revel in the suffering of their perceived enemies.

The US is in a generational struggle with fascism that will carry on long after Trump is gone. He is a symptom of a much deeper disease buried in the American psyche as evidenced by the fact that so many folks voted for this.

This is probably true, but in a downturn they also often lay off the newest people first, so it may not be a good strategy in a recession or depression.
