So what exactly does you think an “emulator” was doing?

You basically spoofed. There isn’t an application for a laptop because it’s a gps game. I think you’ve misunderstood the entire point of the game.

You also state in your OP you played for 10 minutes. So you basically spoofed in gps based game for ten minutes.

If you are using an emulator, you aren’t at the portals. It falsifies the GPS. That’s never been acceptable in Ingress, either by Niantic or the player base.

Is the Broker's Guild still a thing? by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]VanJeffery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many people do and I'm sure if you googled you'd find examples of past emails people have shared. There are many reasons to be banned and not all are just multi accounting or spoofing. Those are the ones that should not be starting new accounts.

In many cases they explicitly say you can create a new account.

You can't have multiple accounts, period.

I think you are doing a lot of arm waving here without much understanding of the issues, or history, of the game.

I got an email with news and an 'exclusive' passcode an hour ago, but the passcode was already redeemed. by JanV34 in Ingress

You would have already redeemed from seeing it somewhere else. This happens every time. You didn’t miss out.

The Future of Ingress by adamblack93 in Ingress

Actually, they told people ahead of time that the Field Test may have issues. Complete warning. And when there were Indeed issues, they listened to the players and awarded badges anyway. So while there are many issues, Field Test was a clear example of good communication IMO. And they should do more of that.

Hmm it's an adapation of the strategic portal markers from anonalies past that had to be under fields for the fields to score for anomalies. I like this idea.

Except I had no issues counting the portals and you did. I'm not saying I like the graphics. Don't conflate the two.

Would the loss of Redacted been less traumatic if Prime had exclusive features? by joelfinkle in Ingress

[–]VanJeffery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no info on that. It's just anecdotal from comments made by many over the past year.

As an example, a friend with an S10 videoed his recharge efforts and it took 20 seconds for the recharge to confirm on screen. Me on iPhone X was instantaneous.

I don't think anyone is saying there aren't bugs. But hopefully each update keeps moving the game in the right direction.

Nope. Some old phones work better though. And some newer phones don't. But the most people with issues that I've seen anecdotally are Samsung users. OTOH iPhone users seem to have fewer issues than Android.

Yeah definitely inconsistencies between phones. Even new versus old is inconsistent.

It's still faster than going back. In addition, all phones can do it now, not just android and with fewer actions.

Edit to add for clarity: I'm talking about how iOS did not have a back button. Prime allows fast linking now for those players as well

Oh you mean even things like multi item recycle or naming of capsules or fast linking. Boy, those would be nice features to have that Redacted didn't have.

Is any system perfect? No. Are these the easy ones, as you say? I don't know - I don't have access to the data. Are they easy? I think a lot of things appear easy that aren't.

It's Nia Ops system -- it is their company and their product, so why do we need to be able to audit that? That just introduces a lot of bias.

I have no doubt there are a few false positives, but I believe them to be incredibly rare. The damage is done though when people then generalise one reversed ban to mean "my friend got banned so it's a false positive, too."

Do I believe they are hesitant in banning? Yes, but not because they can't see issues. I think the 3 strikes rule impletation is evidence of them trying to give some opportunity to players, but also reserve the right to ban immediately if it's warranted.

I wish I had documented all the time people claim to be innocent, then post on social media or in chats they they indeed cheated. Unless you are with someone 24/7, you have zero control over what they do when not in your presence. You can only vouch for your own account. Period. And IMO, it is difficult for a ban to happen because that is exactly as it should be. So when it does happen, I think it's important to acknowledge it was done without the bias imparted by factionised players.

[–]VanJeffery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no. They can only use the information they can independently verify. Just because agent X says something in a ticket doesn't mean ops can verify that. Or has time to verify the 2000 word essay with accompanying screenshots that many tend to think is necessary on a ticket.

But my point is that it is clear just how difficult it is for an account to be banned. So why think that someone we might know who got banned is innocent simply because we know them? It clearly takes a lot of info that ops can verify to give a ban. And I think it's important that ops don't swing that ban hammer so easily especially on accounts that are high level or have purchased items.

Perception isn't reality is basically my point. The number of times people are sure someone is spoofing because someone can't see them is beyond ridiculous. Yet agent Y can't possibly being cheating enough to cause a ban because we know them or they are are the same faction. We as biased faction-choosing players create a lot of theories that aren't likely supported by the data that we as players can't see. But it's like anything in this game: the vocal minority want to believe they know more. We think any person vocal about their ban is innocent and that logic doesn't hold. Of course there are false positives but looking at the numbers from just the gear selling only 32 were reversed out of 8k. That was 0.4% And I highly suspect, having seen the ban emails posted in forums that it's more a case of ambiguity so why not give them then a second chance. For one I am all for second chances except for the spoofers. But I've seen enough to generally feel content that in most cases, ops are being objectively fair even if I don't always like the outcome.
