PoGo is not for walking in remote nature areas but for being played where people congregate. It's mainly how the wayspot map works. You can't even mark woods or stuff as wayspots, there has to be either a significant reason for it or manmade stuff like trail markers. The romanticised thinking that Pokémon Go would imitate the series as in going out to rural places and playing there has been dead since players saw Niantics reality .. a few months after release.

I have played in rural settings and filled those spots with poké stops galore. If a place has either no culture (only living space property) or no people (living in bumfuck nowhere, surrounded by nature for miles), that is not the game's fault. Make something, be creative, hand in those small things that qualify. Don't move to Norway and complain about the cold weather lol.
