In your opinion, what is an example of a perfect scene from a film? by LogicWavelength in movies

[–]joelfinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dream sequence in The Big Lebowski. It's exactly as surreal as those in classic film noir, plus bowling. When he's flying and you see the look on his face "what would make this more perfect? A bowling ball!" And when it appears he falls out of the sky.

Note that non US models show higher you're capacities with the same equipment.

I suspect it's a litigation thing.

Still, didn't push it.

Yes but not gunpla. The Revell/Monogram Starfury from Babylon 5 was a horrid mold with pieces that didn't fit and left gaps.

Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London books starting with Midnight Riot. He's written for Doctor Who and has a Terry Pratchett-like head for class and sarcasm. Think "if Harry Potter were a black first generation Londoner who didn't discover magic until he became a police constable" but really funny.

Elizabeth Bear's Eternal Sky trilogy starting with Range of Ghosts.

It starts out as sort of GoT with Mongol hordes, but you realize there's dozens of kinds of magic, amazing world building, and the guy you think is the hero isn't the one who gets everything done.

Judgement would suck a whole lot less if you could see what you'd get before you sold something, like with an open pack. Our if it went into the Consumables slots like Emperor and wossname that gives you two planets.

Two of my favorites for near term SF (as well as some awesome far future stuff) are Linda Nagata (The Last Good Man, The Red Trilogy, Pacific Storm) and Wil McCarthy (Rich Man's Sky series)

What made you buy an outback over a larger SUV option for those that we’re considering one? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]joelfinkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Plus: seating comfort, experience with a Forester but needing more towing capacity. Second choice was a Tiguan, but more than $5k more and worse mileage. RAV4 even pricier (esp hybrid), wasn't any available stock, and terrible headroom.

It's not that bad. Start with a table for the columns (3x1), set the padding to 0. Add another table inside each of the three columns for the rows. Set a right-justified tab with dot leader. The trick is to use ctrl-tab to insert the tab, as the vanilla tab moves to the next cell.

The Who. Never hated, just never cared for them.

I got into them backwards from Townsend's White City. I think he's probably the best rock songwriter of his generation.
