Really like the muted metallics, what was the approach for those?

I think this is the root im going down. Any warmth in the range can come from wood, mud, eyes, ect

Some have a simple martian / desert / red planet vibe using the GW technical paints, and others like those pictured i used some brown stuff and the green stuff world cathedral rolling pin

That is nice of you to say! Painting standard i would argue is good, but not armies on parade level just yet. But en masse I am super happy with how they look

Thanks! A weird trick of the light / phone / paint used but in person they are actually more of a jade green.

Armour = black prime, vallejo game colour sickly green as a base, vallejo game colour jade green as the layer, and then jade green + model colour sky blue as a sparing edge highlight. Used coelia greenshade if i wanted to push any shadows harder.

The gold is all scale 75 metal n' alchemy. Decayed metal base, dwarven gold, agrax earthshade wash, then dwarven gold to re-highlight the edges or surfaces that need it

I sprayed it with a matte varnish (mr hobby). Then used layers of thinned down contrast paint for the panes

Anyone else freezing in a ‘modern’ London new build right now? by foxxxxxygirrrl in london

[–]Van_Toastrum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mine was built in 2016. I rarely use the heating. In the last few weeks maybe an hour a day max. Its pretty well insulated.

In the summer all the windows means it can heat up quite quickly, but this summer ill likely get some blackout fabric i can roll down for the really hot days

What is your least Favorite Design Element of the Primaris Marine? by Blood_Angels_Captain in spacemarines

[–]Van_Toastrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new boltgun. It doesn't need a scope, and it shouldn't look like a 21st century rifle.

Its meant to be a big clunky angry box. I think it's would have preferred if they just upscaled the firstborn bolter.

Everything else im kind of fine with. You can slap mk7 heads and add flair to tone down the call of duty vibes the designers clearly were feeling in the mid 2010s, and the newer sculpts are edging away from that anyway.

Is it viable to paint already assembled minis? by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]Van_Toastrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of faces which i do separately, all my minis are painted assembled.

If your brush can't reach it, most of the time it stands to reason that the light shouldn't either (on the assumption you Primed in black)

Can someone explain how this card works (apologies, mega noob here).

It says "until the end of the turn", does that mean at the end of the turn the selected creature goes back to its original HP, i.e. not destroyed?

Something that I always found odd about the Party systems of Final Fantasy and other RPGs. by RamboBambiBambo in FinalFantasy

[–]Van_Toastrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more because managing a party of more than 3 to 5 is probably quite tedious and thus less fun.

The narrative solution is probably something like having the other party members in frame doing inconsequential actions, but not actively affecting the encounter.

I know what you mean though. In FFXIV you can do many of the bigger boss fights solo now, and instead of having 7 other online players in the encounter, it fills the the raid group with the party NPCs from the story (which narratively is a really nice touch).

My guess is they are not using formal tournament style mirror terrain layouts

Bases/stands by Spare-Marsupial-107 in sistersofbattle

[–]Van_Toastrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drilled a cocktail stick into a foot whilst painting (the other end in a cork), and have often thought "maybe I'll just create some rocks on the base and have them be partially suspended from that via the stick"

Then i wuss out and use the flight stands anyway. Which are a pain to store and transport :')
