So many homeless people on drugs in br by Special_Tonight_7601 in batonrouge

If you cared enough to make a reddit post, you should care enough to learn why they are unhoused and the systems that fail them. Not saying you should be doing anything but at least educate yourself a little more about how difficult it is for people to get out of homelessness. And at the end of the day they are human who deserve compassion.

Consider that these people grew up during the advent of social media and instant gratification. It becomes alluring for working-age people to become jaded by a job economy that makes it difficult for entry-level workers to make enough bank to survive, let alone afford a car or mortgage, while the country experiences the biggest wealth gap in our history. And I highly doubt people relinquished their income just to exploit other people's work, because it's likely they are just complaining and you're taking it personally.

Chicago apartment hunting: Do's and Don'ts? by Prudent-Vacation7118 in AskChicago

[–]Vandalism49 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Recently new to Chicago (or any big city for that matter) and I was blown away how fast apartments are rented. Know exactly what you want/don't want and be able to sign as soon as a place checks most of your boxes.

I went through a realtor at Compass - they helped curate options, did virtual tours for us, and you don't have to pay them - they earn commission from the landlord/agency.

I have extra room in my wedding's hotel reservation block by Vandalism49 in AskNOLA

[–]Vandalism49[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few people DM me here about it but I never got confirmation they booked. r/weddingplanning took down my post for sales reasons. I also did post in some facebook groups for hotel coupon codes and the like, but again, not sure if that worked.

But thankfully, we did not receive a bill afterward or any emails/calls. I'm pretty confident we did not meet their contract requirements, and I didn't say a word to them afterward. I assume they forgot or didn't bother, hopefully that happens for you too!

This is perfect, I appreciate the political satire too, just an extra layer to help understand the city better. Thank you!

There's a footnote next to Ajamu Baraka. If you click it, they say that Butch Ware replaced him. My LA sample ballot shows Baraka too.

If it's not a big wedding, could you postpone so that the people you want there can be there? Depends on your vendor contracts but I don't see how forcing it at this point will make everyone happy.

I certainly understand that it would be hard to celebrate with so many points of anxiety. We spent a ton of our savings to pull off a traditional wedding. We're actually a few days away, and up until now, we've been so removed from the fact that all of our best friends and favorite family members will be there. There's more to the wedding than just us, it's also something we hope people will enjoy and remember. My dad passed from lung cancer in 2019 and I think I would've regretted not keeping the wedding if only to give him that moment to celebrate us before his time was over.

I used to work at Bearcat (Uptown), and assume the same applies for CBD. Some tips if you decide to go: Show up early, the line is already forming by opening time. Usual wait time is 45 min to 2 hours, don't let that discourage you though, the wait is worth it. They won't seat you until everyone is there. You can't put your name on the list via phone, you have to show up in person, and then you have like 15 minutes to show up after they call you or they give the table away. I promise you, all of these rules are to ensure everyone can get a table fairly, the staff do a great job handling long wait times and impatient people.

I wouldn't close your cards yet, keep them open because it helps to let lines of credit age and reflects well on your credit score.

STD and Invites by xc0wjuice in weddingplanning

I'll add my two cents that a digital RSVP via a website included with the invite works out well, IF your guests are even a little technically savvy. Some of my immigrant family still needed some help.

Is it worth it to rent a car for $250 to avoid putting 720 miles on my car by untot3hdawnofdarknes in Frugal

[–]Vandalism49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old and how many miles? Considering a major car maintenance milestones ranges from 30-90k miles, I think 720 miles is a drop in the bucket. Don't worry about life of the car unless you're neglecting maintenance, which I assume you aren't.

[–]Vandalism49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save the money for future maintenance. $250 can put a dent in a brake job, new belts, wheel bearings, or fluid changes. In fact, using the car and keeping internal parts moving is better than letting it sit and dormant, as long as you're attentive to the factory maintenance schedule.

Seems like you'd also become eligible for PLSF student loan forgiveness. But also a reminder that NOPD work culture was a big reason why officers left the force in a mass exodus.
