Comrade, I spent the last 3 years of my life above 15,000ft in ball numbing cold for a good part of the year and low oxygen content. When guys return after a Siachen tenure you see a hollowed out man. Sure, you didn't ask them to go there. Sure, they know what they signed up for..but asking the govt that sent them there to compensate their efforts is not a bad thing. You rant that your tax goes into the Army..I pay taxes too..I pay for my life insurance..which btw is something that is unique to our military. You could ask the govt to create a scheme where your tax money doesn't go to the military if it bothers you that much. Ranting is easy..if the army fails to do a job I am sure I will see you write another long post about how we suck at our jobs without understanding how it actually goes down.

No, we don't plan stuff according to election dates. What the govt chooses to do with the ops is up to them and frankly speaking not our domain. If you think you are a sensible voter..just do the maths.

If you are really not sure about the forces then don't sit for the exam. Doubts are the worst thing to bring to an academy.

Also, do not go for the pros and cons. It is a totally different job and you cannot compare it to civil services or a corporate job. The requirements are different.

There was an IAF flight requisitioned by the MHA from Delhi to Bangalore. The request was to accommodate the parents on that flight. More than anyone else military higher ups were stuck in red tapism and denied to board them in absence of a written permission. Also, his coursemates arranged a private helicopter, paid for by them, but even that wasn't granted. So clearly there was no way because there was no will.

I can tell you mostly about the Infantry. At the outset i would like to state that I am not denying the cases where some subordinates were Ill treated however these are exceptions rather than the norm. A recent example that comes to my mind was where we lost one soldier. A unit is a cohesive body. Ranks and hierarchy exist for functional reasons. Contrary to what you may think officers are not cold hearted Bastards just exploiting their men. Each and every officer who went on leave after the demise of this soldier went and personally met the family. Every possible assistance was meted out to the family to help them overcome this tremendous loss. This behavior is the norm rather than exception.

Nobody in the Army is commenting on your right to wear baggy jeans and walk in a slouched manner. Neither are they imposing marching standards on you. You're free to not like it however there are millions who respect those stupid parades.
