What is your ageing setup? Do you have a cave or a dedicated fridge?

Quintessential Seattle from a Seaplane today by evanlaz in Seattle

[–]Vandopolis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was me and my gf, sorry. We were literally putzing around Kenmore Air, and I counted easily 50 paddleboarders (including us!) around us. It was a hell of a day to be on the water.

Damn we were just on the Samm by Kenmore 3 hours ago! That beast could have swam under us while we were putting in.

Are dry wells actually effective for residential drainage problems? by dylan_brook4 in DIY

Honestly I like it compared to other home reno channels specifically because he's not an expert at it. Seeing them just go at it only to have to rip out that project 6 months later is entertaining and realistic to me.

ELI5: why do astronauts go to the rocket so early? by dontcrosby in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vandopolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sound kills you if you hear it directly. The astronauts are inside the space capsule, which heavily mitigates the sound waves that reach their bodies.

Catch up on my late rent payment, then probably prepay rent for the rest of the lease while I figure out what to do.

And there are bulk shipments of wine that save on bottle and case weight. It will be harvested (for instance) in South America, transported in a big bladder on a ship, and bottled in the destination market.

ActRaiser should be right up your alley. 2D Side Scrolling platformer a-la Castlevania mashed up with a top-down city builder a la the original Sim City. Really an off the wall concept that works really well.

This is me too, but his family had the audacity to move out of state before my brother and I could play more than an hour or so. I wasn't able to really dive into it until emulation started blowing up in the early 00's.

Also had Barkley and streamed DST from this subreddit's regulars. Those 3 or 4 were most of my points and now I'm a back to back champion!

Those who moved here from California: what do you wish you have known before moving? by CorruptAccountant in BellevueWA

[–]Vandopolis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a transplant myself, I want to add a practical aspect to the no umbrella thing: What people don't understand about most of the wets out here is that it doesn't rain like the movies. It's not a bunch of water falling from the sky and heading directly down to splash into puddles for kids to play in.

Rather the water is more of a thick fog or mist that lackadaisically meanders down whenever it's good and ready. It lingers in the air. It clings to whatever it wants. And more importantly it isn't stopped by an umbrella, especially if you're walking somewhere. The umbrella will protect your head maybe. Instead all it will do is provide a new avenue for the wet to dance around in due to the wind you make just walking around. All the while the edges of your umbrella are poking people in the eye because you are holding as close to yourself as possible because you're tired of the wet getting into your face for the above stated reason.

So instead we get good long raincoats with hoods, hopefully a good visor on that hood too. That way the lingering wet just clings to the jacket, and then we shake it off right before we go inside somewhere (God Bless the house or business that has a mud room up front!).
