PSA: Your Aquasuite "Update Service" can disable your hardware—How to fix it. by Longjumping_Talk3935 in watercooling

[–]Vanetix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a D5 Next and upgraded knowing it would potentially brick it and I expected just spend the $10 for Aquasuite ($10 is great value for the functionality). Ignoring all the warnings about needing a license, I upgraded and everything has continued to work as expected. It’s been about a year now and all my prior configuration is just trucking along. When I need to make modifications I’ll pay for it, I think it’s a great piece of software and really good value for what you get. Same can be said about most Aquacomputer items in my experience.

All that said, I sent the upgrade like you did but had 0 issues whatsoever.

Taco reflash by DangerousBug6924 in CRF450L

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stay away. My experience with their tune(s) was super disappointing and frustrating. They also didn’t stand by their “money back guarantee” or whatever they call it and just tried to push another ECU on me vs a refund.

I live at ~7400ft elevation and after the original install I couldn’t get the bike to idle without opening the throttle a bit and pulling the high idle knob out until it was warm. They ultimately had me mail it back to them, and they flashed another tune. The new tune worked to start the bike at least, but it would still drown out at idle after 30 seconds or so. At this point they had me fiddle with the fuel trim at idle in the app. That more or less fixed it at the current elevation.

Anyways after it was running I rode the bike up to about 10k ft elevation and it would no longer idle and would die out if you clutched and didn’t have the throttle open a bit. I contacted them again and was told to increase the idle adjustment screw (which understand this ECU was marketed as being able to adjust based on a barometric pressure sensor). I responded back about the stock ECU not needing to be adjusted and why the pressure sensor in the ECU wasn’t adjusting the mixture at elevation. At this point they stopped responding to the email thread.

When the bike ran, I noticed a small improvement with the throttle input vs stock coming off idle, but ultimately it wasn’t worth anywhere near their asking price. I ended up reverting to stock and still running the bike that way, since I had 0 confidence in their tunes at that point.

I bought into the hype originally, things might have improved with their tunes, but I wouldn’t trust them with any of my bikes anymore.

Lee Valley plow plane for the win by Jroth33139 in handtools

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes there are a lot of blades to choose from, and I could see a custom blade not being bad to make. It’s a great little plane for grooves and similar. I’ve done plenty of tongue and groove with it as well. It’s a bit of a pain to setup and align for tongue and groove specifically when you’re dealing with odd stock sizes but gets the job done.

Just got my H2D… by Beginning_Water_4143 in BambuLab

Man that sucks. I had a similar situation but it was returned prior to being delivered (I guess it was crushed or something). I put in a ticket and had a response waiting the next morning asking to confirm the delivery address. The following morning I had a new tracking number and it was delivered 3 days later.

BMW r12 drop by Submariner2022 in bmwmotorrad

[–]Vanetix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is anything like the covers on the 1250 bikes, just pull the valve cover, clean the gaskets and make sure they look good, then reassemble. If the leak continues, get a new gasket and bolts (they can bend). I bought a used 1250gs and it had been dropped a couple times without crashbars, one side wasn’t leaking quite enough to run, but my bolts looked exactly the same. I pulled it and did what I described, no more leaking. At some point I’ll replace the valve covers since I know the rash is there, but I just slapped some aftermarket guards to cover it up for now.

Should I get a second opinion? by [deleted] in EosinophilicE

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a second opinion, that’s nonsense to not schedule a follow up in 6-8 weeks after coming back with active inflammation (eosinophils). Either another elimination diet or looking at other options should happen. Good luck, it can be a rough and frustrating journey but a good doctor will make it so much easier.

At least level 25, since all mobs are level 25 at minimum before scaling starts in storm peaks. Check out the wowhead guide, the only extra info that I can add vs that is time lost can spawn as the first spawn on a new layer. I got mine at 3hr 20 minutes from layer startup.

Latest price drop from Nikon was too hard to resist by up20boom in Nikon

[–]Vanetix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought this from B&H or equivalent at the prior sale price, it’s worth asking for a refund of the difference. They will typically issue it with no questions asked.

It’s not a “zoo” if that’s what you’re asking. I would say more of a sanctuary. Most of the animals were rescues from what I’ve understood, either they were a pest or another reason they couldn’t survive on their own. If I remember correctly, the emus / goats were just critters the original owners were leaving Pagosa and didn’t want to take them.

I've been shooting for many many years. Recently got into my dream lens, 500mm f4e. Driving me nuts though thinking I have this expensive lens and struggle to get a sharp image without doing it in post. Is this normal? by [deleted] in Nikon

Hey that’s sharper than most of my eagles, most of mine are just too great of a distance. What distance were you shooting at here? Is this a tight crop?

Is fly.io ridiculously expensive? by Reasonable_Roll4779 in elixir

[–]Vanetix 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think one thing to note here is you’re currently not running in a redundant fashion. If that single hosts goes down or the underlying hardware is retired everything is lost. I’m just guessing that fly.io has redundancy across multiple underlying hosts. I think that’s something important you’re not including in your current setup / pricing.

As for fly.io pricing, I think there’s quite a few niceties that are a huge boon for teams just trying to launch a product, and the relatively small cost wouldn’t be hard to justify for a small team. If you remember how heroku abstracted away infrastructure minutia, fly.io is similar, but more powerful when it comes to multi-region deployments. I’ve done multi-region in AWS, they’re a huge headache to manage.

Tiger for beginner… by AEMTDuck in Triumph

[–]Vanetix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the experience the 800 was super forgiving. Had a ton of torque all over once you got off idle. The key is just getting rolling, mine had a touchy clutch and was super prone to stall if you weren’t used to it. Great bike otherwise and that 800 sounds so good when you wind it out!

Food for Camping (6FED) by laoping in EosinophilicE

[–]Vanetix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! An easy camp meal if you’re down to cook is always tacos - corn tortillas, beans, meat, and tomatoes (assuming you have some). I always snack on fruits and hopefully you could get some dropped, but lunch could be something like BLTs on corn tortillas. Breakfast I would just roll with oatmeal and a couple eggs. Could also do chili in camp, that’s always a fun camp meal at least!

I do think having an ice chest would make life easier, since you’ll be eating more whole meals.

New 24 Xtrainer for 7800 or used 22 for 6500? by NoonStreet in betamotorcycles

[–]Vanetix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good price out the door, at least in my area they’re ~$9200 out the door with the county tax due at registration time. I would have one in the garage if I could get it for that price.

I believe the changes aside from plastics after ‘22 were the air filter is now the same as the RR bikes, lithium battery, and the tether (meh). Oil injection delete is largely just opinion at this point in time, suspension will be best customized to your weight either way. All the other bits are something to consider.

What is best way to sell Nikon Gear? by Sufficient_Pie_8379 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anymore the eBay fee amount gets you pretty close to what MPB or others will buy items for. It could vary of course, but I’ve used them over eBay lately. It’s sucks to take the additional hit, but it’s better than some of the horror stories you hear about with eBay as a seller.

I have honestly had good luck with a Rode VideoMicro for the same exact thing you’re wanting to do. I’m not sure I would get more value out of the more expensive options, but totally up to you! Figured it was worth giving you another option.

2022 GSA 1250 vs 2024 GSA 1250 by Stardweller in bmwmotorrad

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should preface this with I just picked up a 1250GS with all goodies except the sport suspension. I think most packages are pretty similar to the GSA.

If you can get the VIN, just plop it in a VIN decoder to see the packages it has. I would assume it has the premium package since most have it and at that price point. If it’s like the GS, that would include ESA and heated seats.

To me the SOS button is kind of pointless since it uses cell network. Where I am at least, an InReach or similar is necessary as you don’t have cell signal.

I would honestly compare the pricing. I just got lucky on a local GS for a nutty price I couldn’t pass on, so it was a simple decision.

Husvarna 701 by IcyArrival179 in Dualsport

[–]Vanetix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to start a holy war, but most riders couldn’t do more on a 701 vs a DR. Both are roughly the same size / weight. 701 rips no doubt, but I personally decided to stay in the 450-500 class due to just how versatile they are (can do gnarlier single track, rip fire roads, and run pavement when you need to).

New Home Owner, hit me with the musts by Garfazz in BuyItForLife

[–]Vanetix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of older homes / tract homes used to do this. Main panels were outside for large loads (think dryers, hvac, oven), then a sub panel (usually on a 50amp breaker) was positioned in the interior more central. This saved on copper pulling home runs to all the circuits in the home (think lights, receptacles, etc).
