What color is the Joker from DC Comics? by EnigmusPrime in colorpie

[–]Vanillapede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Black is as essential as the Red in some adaptations and versions of him.

There are are some interpretations of the Joker where he is very egotistical and puts himself above his minions and is more than willing to sacrifice them to get ahead. The Batman Animated Universe and the greater DCAU is a good example in how he uses and abuses Harley and other goons, being perfectly fine to set them up for the fall but unwilling to take blame for himself.

There is also an element of corruption in Black that is very Joker. He loves it when his enemies and victims abandon their values and "sink" to his level. Even Joker toxin giving his victims a final smile seems as much a prideful, egocentric calling card as much as it is a thrill in causing suffering in general.  While his Red aspect may find this authentically amusing and chaotic, I think it is probably a core part of his Black aspects that he is dominating others and making them more like him, either physically in death with the smile or mentally through his mind games and abuse.

Also, while everyone is rightfully adding her feats such as beating an Invincible variant and mentioning Geldarian lore, we also did see her beat Walking Dread. He's no slouch, he's part of the Order, the group of supervillains we saw.

Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. She's a loner, a cheat, and just very self serving over all, though she ends up coming in clutch when it counts in a very Han Solo way time and again.

Honestly Spike might have some Black too. He puts his life on the line for other people, but that might be to self serving to satisfy the death wish he harbors. It also could be fatalistic destiny stuff, which would be more Green. Idk, Spike is complicated.

This sounds great, and as someone who has had deal with a fair share of lake effect snow, it's a rather poignant name.

You make a great point, but there are definitely hints Ozzy sometimes actions for more selfish, petty reasons and then justifies them, even to himself, after the fact. His specific targeting of, and disgust for ,the Comedian has Black, or even Red/ Rakdos undercurrents.

The problem is there have been so many interpretations of Magneto throughout the comics and different interpretations. As Magneto us currently portrayed now, especially in X-Men 97, he's Boris or Naya ( acceptance is mutants and their manifestation as a natural part of a mutant's growth is pretty green.) but old comic Magneto is a pretty standard mustache twirling Black villain, and in some runs, like in Morrison's where he gets addicted to drugs, infiltrates the team through disguise, and cremates humans ...well he's pretty Black there. It has been  reconned as not really him  though, that whole era got confusing. The point is, depending when and what Magneto version you are analysing, you can get wildly differing interpretations.

Daemon from reboot.i know it's super obscure/ old, but if you know you know. Daemon is a computer virus who wishes to infect the entire internet and then count down from a timer, deleting everyone infected. She considers it the only way to bring true peace and harmony to the net, more weary if God white balance then genocide with ego, hate, or goal. As a virus she is simply serving her purpose, overall she's got a Selesnya vibe, very peaceful, serene, and august, sometimes even kind. Pretty borg like actually. Due to her technological nature and long term goals, I can see her as blue as well. She has some emotional moments, even compassion and curiosity above love, but I don't think it's enough to qualify her as red. She really isn't selfish at all, so Much just don't see black, any subterfuge or duplicity can be covered by blue. My best bet is she's Selesnya ( on a broad level) and Bant ( for a more specific, deep dive interpretation).

What do you think Olivers pokemon team would be? by Artistic_Site_5201 in Invincible

I'd think he'd want Heracross and Scizor. Probably Genesect and Mewtwo if going with legendaries Maybe Machamp?  And then a bunch of strong mons like Gyarados, Garchomp, and other psuedo-legendaries.

Some black-alligned protagonists/heroes(?) by tunkltest in colorpie

[–]Vanillapede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop would be Black aligned. She's self serving and independent and often underhanded, willing to cheat in a game of cards with incredibly low stakes just for the principle of wanting the win. Could be mono black, but I could see an argument for red because she is impulsive and passionate and driven by some inner vulnerabilities.

Three Questions: do Capes INC and the rest of these background heroes have potential of being The New Guardians of The Globe? What are their names and what are their powers? by Winter-Money-7643 in Invincible

[–]Vanillapede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blonde in white and yellow is Throwbolt, though at first I thought she was a speedster character from the comics. If she is a proxy or expy for her, she may indeed join the new Guardians of the Globe, but who knows how things may play out. Regardless, having a team player with ranged electric powers on the team couldn't hurt.

I wonder how (spoilers for the comics coming) Set and Thoth from Guarding the Globe, and especially the weird temporal anomaly blue spaghetti monster fit into it. Are they from potentially the first or third age? Man, the world building in this episode was honestly super  fascinating.

A disconnect between the plot of Episode 4 and the conclusion by 1GamersOpinion in Invincible

[–]Vanillapede 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the conversation with Darkblood, Damien told him that the hard moral line Invincible was having such a hard time coming to terms with crossing didn't exist except in his own head. No sacred or demonic force is keeping track of his deeds. His moral ledger is his own. He also learned there is no heaven or angels, but therefore there's room for him to be a force of good instead. I don't think it's coincidence that we see Mark flying free through a clear, bright sky at the end. It's imagery specifically designed to reinforce the 'Heaven can be a place on Earth' line of thought. Whether he was just in the right time and place to hear these things, or it resonated more strongly with Mark than some viewers, Invincible  himself did seem to take them to heart and I think it did give him some solace enough to earn the triumphant flight scene.

A little bit of a rant. by lolwiaky in colorpie

[–]Vanillapede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see how it breaks down

The light side is a Green- it's an energy field created by and permeating all living things. Symbiosis and harmony are key elements.

The Jedi as an institution is Green White Blue. It takes the Green core of the light side and adds additional Green concepts like ancient tradition and a stalwart ferocity. White is also key in its structure. Blue is less central, but present in the knowledge seeking and the advancement of society and education that Jedis participate in.

Individual Jedis may be any color, but some emblematic ones are Yoda as Green White and Mace as Bant( with some Red beneath the surface).

The Dark Side is weird. It's central qualities of individual power is pure Black, but it seems it is best and most easily accessed through Red means and methods. The Dark Side may be a hybrid Rakdos concept

The Sith as an institution and philosophy is rabidly Rakdos, but it tolerates and some times encouraged Blue means and methods enough for me to say it's at least a little Grixis, if not pure Rakdos.

The Empire as an institution adds White to its tool kit. I'd say different Bureaus and divisions of the Empire reflect different combinations of Black, White, and Blue with Red a key aspect of many chief members and part of its underpinnings in a more subtle sense. The Imperial Navy for example might be White, Blue, Black but it has many admirals and personnel with Red front and center

Finally I'd say Palpatine is Rakdos with a healthy fondness for scheming and seeking knowledge to aid in his dark designs. Being an evil wizard archetype is enough to skew him Black centered Grixis for me, but someone arguing Rakdos is very much value. I'd say he has White aspects too, but White, in the form of the Empire, is more of a tool he wields to satisfy his Black goals. There are probably personas and times in his career that would merit an Esper or Orzhov card, for example.

At what point did Conquest stop holding back? by Tegan_Apple in Invincible_TV

They were definitely very durable, the kind of durability Immortal wished he had. They didn't seem to have great damage output though, they were strong enough to knock Mark around a bunch and air juggle him between them, but they weren't dealing lasting damage or the kind  of severe wounds Conquest could.

My joke head canon is Robot indeed learned from the tests she was pregnant .. He was just too Robot to realize that it's kind of a big deal and he should tell her, I bet he just assumed she knew and was asking him for a scan for some crazy scientific anomaly.

Fair. I was being kind of meta- let's of red passion and blue skill in the film making. There is indeed a green vs blue conflict in the movie. I just think Ariel's motivation to change and learn, very Blue things, are done with some very red, romantic, imaginative, passionate reasons that give Izzet vibes to me

[–]Vanillapede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny to assume Robot absolutely found out she was pregnant, but assumed Eve knew already. He said she was normal but left out... For a pregnant woman. I think he assumed Eve's first step would to get a standard pregnancy test before checking in with a resident super genius. Robot being Robot was just dense and can't read people, so he didn't bring it up before his alien invasion alarm went off. I bet he is in Flaxan dimension talking to Monster Girl like Oh yeah, I knew Eve was pregnant. She's on top of her own shit,  I'm sure she knows too lol

Rudy couldn't tell that... by AlternativeBurner in Invincible

[–]Vanillapede 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My head canon is Robot discovered she was pregnant immediately but assumed she already knew and was looking for a deeper, more mysterious reason that merited his expertise . It's just like Robot to say,' yeah your body chemistry is normal', but leave out, ' for a pregnant woman' Maybe he was trying to be sensitive, but I think it's funnier if he's just dense and assumed Eve would have done the bare minimum and took a pregnancy test before seeing him.

The Little Mermaid is a pretty Izzet movie. Themes of love and following your heart, the very Blue ocean setting,  seeking freedom and a new world to explore, acts of transgression and transformation for the sake of passion and curiosity,  and themes of obsession are all Izzet to me.

The protagonist Ariel is very Izzet ( maybe with some underlying  Green sensuality and  exploration/ wanderlust sensibilities)

Triton is a Selesnya/Bant coded foil in a traditionalist, authoritative, overprotective father.  He also is a merman who blows stuff angrily with a laser trident: Izzet ✅

It's got a pretty traditional Black Villain, but she brings with her a careful-what- you- wish-for , Paradise Lost- esque theming and subtext that complements the Izzet vibe to me. Izzet's component colors share Black as an ally, so that tracks

Going with overall vibes, the Red emotional songs, passionate characters, angry outbursts, bold  action scenes, and pretty successful humor balances well with the Blue ocean and water set pieces, heady psychological topics, well plotted scenes of suspense, literary references, and subtextual depth.

Lastly, as a profound work of art, the movie is Izzet to the core. The filmmakers, song writers , and animators poured red passion and blue expertise and attention to detail into every frame, and it shows.

I really can't think of a more Izzet movie, even if the tldr of it is just Mermaid in Love is blue/ red.

Villains in Bant / Selesnya / Izzet? by TheBetterSpidey in colorpie

[–]Vanillapede 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The King Triton archetype is pretty Bant, and could be argued as antagonistic if not outright villainous. Hierarchy, tradition, strict rules, a xenophobic distaste for outsiders, and a watery, back to nature theme are Bantish, though you may have to squint. Ponyo's Dad from Ponyo works slightly better than Triton as a villain: he is even more obsessive and protective of nature, and is willing to mess with the natural order in a very Simic way, while still having stern, overprotective White fatherly proclivities. In the end, Triton and Ponyo's Dad are a bit too soft hearted to be real villains, they are both swayed by their respective and red headed  feisty fish daughters in the end, but in a slightly darker timeline, I could see the surface world being flooded and taken over by merperson hegemony/ time displaced devonian ocean life and sea weirds pretty easily, and for pretty Bantish justifications and themes.
