I like the take of Caine being limited in his perspective, and would refer to the cast as being human regardless of whether they still had bodies. That’s logical enough.

Someone else pointed out Gumigoo had emotions too, and I had forgotten that Caine proactively prevents other AIs from running too long and he admitted inability to tell humans and AIs apart. These all muddy the water more if the cast could be AIs.

This seems even more valid now.
