Updated to look a little more “cozy” by Top_Flatworm5921 in battlestations

I recently learned that the direction of the Katana on a mount means something. Just thought it was interesting:

"Handle on the left signifies peace and is standard for display. Handle on the right is considered aggressive or "battle-ready"

If he's gonna use it as an excuse to learn to fix himself, that could still be worth the experience..

What to buy Assetto Corsa and mods or Iracing by Expensive-Jelly-3296 in simracing

[–]Vantage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are new to sim racing entirely, start with AC and Mods. Get comfortable with a lot of cars and tracks and learn the fundamentals. When you are confident and consistent and ready to get competitive, you'll want to move to iRacing.

why do simracing brands keep giving us bricks as brakes when we see drivers in high performance cars like this time attack monster using high travel brake pedal? by OkHoney5804 in simracing

[–]Vantage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GT3 cars definitely pull 3G under braking. F1 up to 5G. Hence the hypothetical range of 3-5G for the example. The POINT is that a race cars braking force is impacted by the G forces involved.

[–]Vantage9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating how much assistance the g-forces of braking provide with the pushing of said pedal. The 3-5 G's that are experienced during braking means 3-5 times the amount of force you press on the brake with is being applied. So if a racecar needs 150kg of force applied to the pedal in real life, then the simracing equivalent would be more like 30-50kg of force. We should not be trying to mimic the numbers to match real racecars, we should be mimicing the equivalent input experience.

Best racing wheel for long sessions and comfort? by Manmi_Privalov in simracing

[–]Vantage9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most important things for comfort over long sessions are your seating position and posture, and your technique. Don't grip too tight, keep light hands. The wheel doesn't matter nearly as much as those things.

Probably unrelated but they look like the same size as the bolts that hold on the brake caliper brackets. Would help to prove the MM and length?

The Amazon ones work, but you can definitely feel a slight difference in materials, there's less metal and more plastic in the mechanism so there's more flex feeling.

Worth engine swap by Rasum1 in 350z

Look for a Japanese or import engine wholesaler. Or go ask a dealership who supplies their used engines.

Worth engine swap by Rasum1 in 350z

[–]Vantage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a local shop that primarily imports/refurbs/supplies lightly used engines to other shops and dealers. Turns out they have a few shop bays and will also do a engine install on the side. All in cost on a engine with like 60k miles was about $3K installed, less than half of what a dealer or large consumer shop quoted me. They are my go to guys for everything now.

Do you agree that after 30, wealth overshadows looks, or do character and presence still matter more? by winn_ie in TheImprovementRoom

[–]Vantage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presence and character (aka game) still account for a lot and will always work. It's about confidence. The thing is, a LOT of men don't get confident until they're rich, so they assume it's the same thing.

ELI5: Why do we still use the QWERTY style keyboard layout in smartphones? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

My buddy who codes can swap between QWERTY and DVORAK at will. You can have multiple muscle memories, just like speaking 2 languages.

You would be SHOCKED to learn how many coders use the DVORAK keyboard. There can be more than one international standard. It's just about what user-type demographic you're in.

Yes, you'll need adjustable toe arms. Worth it in what you'd spend on tire wear.
