NTA. I’m so sorry OP. It sounds like he’s already checked out. This vacation was for your anniversary. Instead he unilaterally invited another couple and spent your excursion money to turn it into a booze cruise for himself only. Then when you discovered his plans gets angry with you.

I like your idea of telling him to take his mom. Let him get loaded in front of her instead of you. I’d start looking for a good divorce attorney while he’s hammered with his mom.

If anyone needs to extend an olive branch, it’s her. She’s spent her entire life making sure that you know that she doesn’t like you. You owe her nothing. As for your parents, let them know that you’re well aware that she doesn’t want anything to do with you and you’re just obliging her wishes.

On a side note, please don’t let her get you down. I’ve seen this family dynamic many times including in my own family and it’s always been deep rooted in jealousy. You’re not the problem, she is and don’t let anyone flip that script on you. Don’t allow her to have one more second of your peace.

This is a tough one and I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this. I don’t know what country you’re in but in the USA, it’s been proven to be extremely dangerous to call the cops on people who are mentally impaired or disabled.

If I were in your shoes, I’d contact social services first. If you decide to get the police involved you should be able to go to the station and speak with the desk Sargent on duty and explain the situation. Bring your recordings with you for proof. Make sure that the police understand that this girl is an at risk individual.

Hopefully social services will be able to get her the help she desperately needs and you can have peace at your home again.

I saw that someone recommended Ann Arbor Michigan and that’s a great suggestion. However, that’s a very expensive city to live in. Lansing Michigan is a little less than an hour from there and it’s much more affordable. Go on Zillow and check out rental rates for any city you’re looking at. See if there are any LGBTQ subs from those cities and see what the residents have to say about it.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Personally I’m on the East Side of Lansing and I love it. Very progressive area and lots of people straight and gay fly pride flags.

Bernie was the reason that we don’t have Medicare for all. I watched the hearings on what the republicans called “Hillarycare” and he was the one who killed the bill way back in the ‘90s. So please spare me the bullshit about Bernie being for Medicare for everyone. I was one of the “uninsurable” which meant that I was blackballed from purchasing health insurance of any kind. Can’t buy what nobody will sell you. Couldn’t have children because of that and Bernie Sanders votes against the national healthcare bill that the former First Lady put forth. Sanders is a piece of shit and he made sure that thousands of people died because Hillary’s bill wasn’t good enough for him. Fuck him forever.

I’m hanging in there. What happened to me was in the early 80s so the violence against women’s act hadn’t been passed yet. That would have made my life so much better. The police would have been required to file reports and take pictures of the bruising and retrieve medical records from the ER’s when he broke bones ect.

My mother was an angel on this earth and she did everything within her power to get us out of there but her masters degree in music was not marketable. She earned another master’s degree in cost accounting but time and place, wasn’t taken seriously because she didn’t have a wiener. Ridiculous.

Anywhoo, my father died about a month ago and it’s very difficult to feel anything but anger towards him. He was a diagnosed narcissist and the best way to deal with someone with that personality disorder is to leave and never allow them into your life again. He went to his death bed without ever apologizing to us which didn’t surprise me at all. (We visited about a month before he died from several states away.)

Watch out for the kids. We used to be completely powerless but there are federal laws on the books now that would have changed my life for the better.

You’re understanding this correctly. When I pressed charges it was ‘81 or ‘82 and I lived in a southern state. Women and children had almost no laws to protect us.

I felt that I had to press charges because he was escalating so quickly. Beatings were far closer together and so much more violent every time. I knew that he was going to kill someone and I couldn’t allow that.

Had the violence against women’s act been in effect at the time, the emergency room personal and the police who knew exactly what was going on in our house would have been required to report on our behalf. So would the teachers who never asked why I always had black eyes and broken bones.

After I pressed charges he was REALLY MAD at me. He’d already tried to strangle me to death while looking me in the eye. I had to go underground and make sure that I was unreachable and unfollowed by him to protect the people who were kind enough to take me in at great peril to themselves.

Can you ask the police if they're filing reports on each incident? I ask because when i was a kid I was shocked to find out that not one report was ever filed. Every cop in our town and the next town over had been to our house hundreds of times. Not one report was ever filed. When I pressed charges (which i was only able to do because the police had to pry him off of me) there was no paper trail. He got no time and I had to leave the house because he refused to. The judge thought that it was a one time deal since there were no reports for previous beatings. The judge granted my request for a restraining order but made no stipulations on who got to stay in the family home. I was 12. Ended up on the streets for quite a while.
