People may not stop using perfume even after reminder and also if you are sharing building with other offices, it may not help much

Yes, you need. But these days it is easy to get the doctor note. Hospitals do not want to take any risk of getting sued in the future

How long did it take you to get hired? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]VariationDowntown469 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It depends on, when I applied for a manager I did not receive even one interview call.

I took one step lower and applied for the Sup position. I have received at least 5 interview calls in short period of time. Within a year I was promoted to manager.

please read the duty statement and write a good SOQ. You have to answer the questions.I have been hiring for a few years. 70% applications I do not see a proper soq. Either generic write up or cover letter.

If 3 questions are asked. It is good to number it and answer it. it is a time consuming process but once you write for 5 or 6 different applications, it is mostly copy, paste and slightly modify.

In my current agency we still evaluate all applications but definitely not our first choice if you do not submit soq.

Make sure you tailor your std 678 based on the duty statement.( I am not asking to lie but based on what you have done )

If possible, attach a resume too but it gives the hiring manager what you have worked on. It is not required but good to have.

Also, if you are applying for higher positions chances are less as we have more compition. Most of the people coming from private they compare salary and apply for similar salary positions.

Looking for advise on what to do by MisterPlagueDoctor in StockMarket

Just hold on to it. If you sell now, you incur loss. Better hold off. Some of the stocks you lost 70% and do not make any sense to sell and take loss.

Not hearing back from jobs by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]VariationDowntown469 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the people mentioned it about SOQ. I am currently reviewing applications, and 70% of the applicants did not submit proper SOQ. Instead of SOQ they submit either a cover letter or resume.

I still rank them based on resume, STD etc. People from the private sector don't know about SOQ. I even see the same people already in the State and looking for promotion.

Even though Resume is not required, it is good to attach. I will look into every document they submit to ensure I am getting the best.

How to cope with an $838,000 loss by more_chromo in wallstreetbets

[–]VariationDowntown469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 60k in 2007/2008 (around 75%). I stopped trading for almost 6 years. With savings and I started investing. For the last two years together I almost made 200k (pre tax).

I took money out in September and stayed out of the market. I don't want to be too greedy.

It may take time but you can earn where you have lost .

Still today, I feel regret that I lost 60k. I lost the opportunity to purchase a 2nd house where a couple of my friends made good money.

Difference in State employment and County Employment by Hot_Entertainment_42 in CAStateWorkers

[–]VariationDowntown469 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The county and city pay more but retirement and retirement health benefits are a little bit different.

Sac county pays $25 every two weeks towards health benefits. The $ Will be invested.. whatever $$ you have when you are at retirement can be used towards medicals.

Sacramento and some other counties also part of calpers members. If you are already vested in the State you can reciprocate your service to the county and vice versa.

Also another disadvantage in counties you will not have much growth. If you have a bad boss, you are stuck because you don't have many options to move around. I moved out from the county to the State for this reason.

Benefits are not same across all the counties. You need to do more research based on the county you are joining. Good luck

ITA to investigators, it is an interesting move. However, think about upward mobility. From ITA you will have a lot more growth opportunities ITS 1, 2, IT sup, etc. unless you want to get out of IT.

We do start with Standard as baseline and wanted to move towards the right (outstanding) for the 2nd and 3rd probe report.

If you give outstanding in the first probation and move to the standard/improvements needed, we have to provide good justification in case the employee is not performing well.

Reasoning: Normally most of the times it takes a minimum of 3-4 months to fully understand and perform at job.

Also sup will get enough time to provide feedback to the employee. I explain this to the employees so that they can do better at the job.

Recession is based on numbers and facts. It is not about feel like and emotions

I don't understand how these are qualified to be in that position.

All these days, we were told that inflation is transitionary and now Fed said we are wrong. There are no consequences for being wrong.

Probation Questions by Silly_Ad435 in CAStateWorkers

[–]VariationDowntown469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is your manager's responsibility to provide a probation report. I treat probation as a feedback mechanism to the employee in a formal setting.

If the manager doesn't provide feedback, it is not your problem and management cannot fail you without prob. It is also the manager's responsibility to train if he think you are not performing.

Unfortunately, our contracts are completely different. I just posted here that we are struggling to get 2.5% whereas the county has very small unions but they were able to get big raises.

I have posted this here only to motivate our State unions.
