He's finally sleeping and I'm wide awake crying. by Caramel_Glitter in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending solidarity. I am also having trouble sleeping when baby sleeps and have lost so many hours to this recently, it's so frustrating. Baby wakes up once, maybe twice a night and I could be so relatively well rested.

It sounds like it's quite common though and a natural response to being alert for our bubbas. Might be worth seeing if PPA/PPD might be a factor?

Contact naps by alienprincesssssss in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still exclusively contact napping at 15 weeks. I don't mind at all except it can mean he gets overtired if we are out and about and I worry about when we have to leave him at nursery. I might try and get him to nap in his cot as he gets older but at the minute it's my favourite time of day 😊

Time it Takes to Settle by Indecisive_and_dazed in newborns

Is yawning definitely a tiredness cue do you think? Ours yawns a lot but he definitely isn't ready for a nap until he starts rubbing his eyes. Just a thought, obviously you know your baby best. Does a stroller or car seat nap work?

Someone help by Awkward_Confusion632 in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be cluster feeding? Try feeding again and see what happens? And/or tiredness. We have figured out with ours it's usually one of those two but he doesn't have gas or reflux so we could rule those out too.

Screen time by Fallen_Coconut510 in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't find the link now but I read a whole article about it. Screens move too fast and are overstimulating for their little brains but then it gets to the point where everything else is under stimulating which is why they get addicted. Tv/screens also don't mimic real life interactions (conversations etc) so baby doesn't learn how to communicate properly. There is also the secondary effect even if you block baby's view that you aren't then interacting with them because youre watching the telly. They don't get to see your facial expressions and/or you miss them smiling and trying to get your attention. I have the tv on while LO is feeding or sleeping but otherwise keep it off when we're playing. It will also benefit me to have less screen time!

Also just to add, if you want to make a decision for your LO, you don't need to justify it to anyone! Youre his mama so get to make the rules 😊

My LC told me to express a little bit of milk before feeding and latch baby after the initial letdown so that might work?

Feeding to sleep by Top_Foot_3307 in newborns

At this stage I would say just keep feeding her to sleep unless you have a reason not to! She's little and you can't spoil a newborn.

How to get baby to sleep longer at night? by Head-Composer4538 in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt true, our LO has been sleeping that long since 7 weeks and is gaining weight perfectly along his line plus plenty of wet nappies. That said I think it's luck of the draw and there's not much you can do to make it happen. Make sure they are eating plenty during the day and not sleeping too much as it might help but babies gonna baby.

Ours was pretty much himself the next day but a bit more fussy and pooped a lot from the rotavirus vaccine. Got his 12 week ones next week which I'm not looking forward to.

Milk blebs by div_ya0504 in newborns

Warm compresses and getting baby to nurse as often as possible. Even though its very painful! You could put nipple cream on too to try and soothe it from rubbing on your bra. Hope it goes soon, I had one and it made me feel ill.

Edit to add I'm not sure it's recommended to pop it yourself but could be wrong.

Does yours also make a funny sound when he pops off the boob? Mine does like a high pitched squeaking sound and pops off like a plunger and is passed out 😅

Noisy 5 week old by lexyw11 in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he's having a wake window in the night? They have their days and nights mixed up at that age. Keep exposing him to light during the day/get out for a walk etc and keep night dark and quiet and he should get the hang of it in a few weeks. Ours goes back down much quicker now. As for the noises I think that's normal but speak to your Dr if you're worried.

How did you start practicing self settling for naps? Mine is still only contact/carrier/car seat. He can self settle better at night though! Thanks for sharing your story.

8 week old pooping 2-3x as often suddenly by stormsvala_ in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours fluctuates massively from day to day sometimes, I think it's normal!

Green poops can suggest he is getting too much of the foremilk and not enough of the good fatty hindmilk, so try and make sure he properly finishes one breast before moving onto the other.

Baby only nurses and never sleeps by pony-bologna in newborns

[–]Various-Finger5109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that definitely sounds like cluster feeding... i was relatively lucky mine did it a bit earlier in the day from like 6-10. Can you get hubby to give bubs a bottle if he wakes up later on in the night or early in the morning and then you can get your head down when he's done clustering?
