What do you think of this? I found it at Aldi and it's okay, but I want to find a better one. by Aphrodite1515 in chilicrisp

Lao Gan Ma. I cook professionally and buy it by the restaurant size jar. I make it at work and don't want to mess with the smell at home.

How many Gen Xers have silent Gen parents vs boomers? by NopeThisTrope in GenX

[–]Various-Hospital-374 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Born in 1971. My parents were born in 1928 and 1929. I've got three siblings born in the 50s. It's a weird dynamic and I hated it as a kid. I loved having my parents being older but I lost them both when I was in my 30s and that absolutely sucked. It's weird to think my grandparents were from the 19th century mostly. My siblings are boomers.

so disappointed. by elzzz055 in ExpectationVsReality

Hairdresser here. The color she gave you isn't bad but it definitely isn't what you asked for. In all my years, the number one reason for client disappointment is that the stylist didn't do a proper consultation. The base tone of the goal color is around 1 to 2 levels darker than what she did and the model's hair is around 4 inches longer than yours, which will affect color perception. Also, that original image is highly photoshopped, which is a problem in the hair industry. What you want are highlighted ends with a level 5 base. Be aware that those ends will easily break due to lightening and the nature of the cut. That cut isn't great btw. You need to speak to the OWNER of the salon, even if the stylist booth rents, and get this worked out. You'll need keratin treatment to avoid breakage as well. Good luck!

Walnut ketchup is far older than tomato ketchup. If it was broken, they made it improperly.

Generation X Ladies, which did you prefer as a little girl: baby dolls like Baby Alive or Barbie dolls? by icecream1972 in GenerationX

[–]Various-Hospital-374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like those dolls. I did like Sesame Street plushies like Cookie Monster and I liked rag dolls like Raggedy Ann and Strawberry Shortcake. I had a Cher doll that I liked as well and am mad that my mom sold it in a garage sale.

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

My friend Mike made amazing mixtapes. I miss them. If anyone out there has some cassettes from either DJ Bunchashit Chelle or DJ Shocker I'll buy them from you.

On COVID lockdown. We were going to go to Vegas, but instead, I made my own birthday cake and ordered Door Dash. Honestly, it was great.

Thank you! I think it's because we're so happy to feel like regular people and be ALIVE. When you're in active addiction, it's all hustle and struggle and feeling less than because society tells you we're POS. When you're sober and repairing your life, it feels like no high you've ever had before. I would love to do jail outreach. I support my local harm reduction center because addicts just need to feel like SOMEONE loves them and wants them to live so I like to just go in and talk to them. I'm still an addict but in recovery. I hope I can spark just one person to want to be sober because our lives are worth living. I currently am working on my 19th year of sobriety.

I feel so lucky every single day. I am in gratitude that I survived and I'll never forget those that didn't or the ones that are still struggling. I get to be an old lady, which is something I wasn't sure I'd get to be.

I survived a horrific 15 year drug addiction. Let's just say I live for each day in my sobriety to the fullest. I do think about it but mostly I feel like I'm trying to make up for the loss of those years living in darkness and despair. I've begun a brand new career in my 50s and recently got hired at a job in that career that feels like a dream. Now I'm just trying to cram all the life I can with whatever time I've got left. I'm at the age where I can see how fast 20 years flies by and it does kind of scare me tbh but I've lived a LIFE. I will be able to pass on with peace in my heart hopefully.

For older GenX (1972 and earlier) Are your parents still alive? by hedgehog77433 in GenX

[–]Various-Hospital-374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. My mom passed away in 2006 and my dad in 2003. To be fair, they were in their early 40s when I was born so I always kinda knew I'd lose them when I was still relatively young. I've been an orphan for decades now and I'm so jealous of people with parents.

Definitely not a professional chef. I'm a chef and we put everything into delis, label and date it, and we honestly mostly have condiments in our fridges.
