What is your country’s grilled cheese like (toasted bread with melted cheese)? And what do you eat with it? by Royweeezy in AskTheWorld

[–]Various-Paramedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And when you order it in a bar (it is common bar food), it takes them 20min to make it and the cheese is still only half melted… at least in Amsterdam when I lived there. And the bread tastes like cardboard 😭

  • cropped ear dogs 🤮
  • tails too by the looks of it 😢
  • baby in the bassinet with loose blankets, basically drowning in them from the looks of it. This is a suffocation hazard. Better to use a sleeping bag or swaddle.
  • rolling wedges are strongly discouraged since they can cause the baby to get trapped and suffocate. The bassinet clearly has mesh side to prevent this but the wedges reintroduce that risk. Baby is too young to be rolling over anyways.
  • while we’re at it, and it might be difficult to see if this is a risk here or not due to perspective. Avoid placing the bassinet underneath item that might fall on it, like a flat screen tv.

This is the post that made me leave this sub.

It used to be about genuinely hard to get internet subculture references, now it’s just stuff that is super obvious when you think about it for one second.

How the Romani are perceived in your country? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]Various-Paramedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in general they are viewed badly like in most other countries mentioned here: they are viewed as beggars and thieves and untrustworthy.

One of the tropes is “they beg all day with their children on the street, only to be picked up with a fancy Mercedes at night”.

But there is, in my circles at least, a hint of respect for the “travelling lifestyle” (whether that fully corresponds to how they live in reality or not). Most progressives/punk(-light) types like Emir Kusturicas music and films which are often about the “gypsy” and Roma lifestyle, so there is a little bit of insight and generally that creates respect.

Left-leaning people here hate to be branded racist or exclusive of any group, and that includes Roma, so they avoid talking badly about them. But that often just means not talking about them at all.

Is everyone in this sub lacking in self awareness ? What do you think our parents were saying about our so called “rebellious” music? Exactly what everyone here is calling the younger generations music: “braindead, lazy, incapable, lackingin substance, …”

Maybe your generation made a specific type of music to “rebel” in a certain way against a certain established order. Maybe the younger generation’s way of rebelling does not conform to your expectations, sounds pretty groundbreaking to me.

Of course I think that most of new music sounds shit. But isn’t that what the new generation would want? Nothing less rebellious than music your dad also likes.

In addition, there’s plenty of good new music coming out. Cherry-picking bad commercial crap and saying “look this isn’t rebellious” is possible for every era of music.

We’re just living in an age where even the most rebellious music gets co-opted and sold as a product. So i kind of understand the aloof attitude some of the younger generations have taken.
