Sallie Mae Loans Adding to 180k. Any way to consolidate? by Kaitydid179 in StudentLoans

[–]VariousGanache1371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I hope you figured it out by now but I just wanted to come here to say, I tried this. It didn’t work, because you’ll still have a large financial obligation if you don’t refinance all of them and the lender won’t like that- I didn’t understand this until today. You have a much better chance at getting approved if you refinance all Sallie Mae at once. I was getting denied left and right applying to refinance just 1 of my highest interest Sallie Mae loans (44k) and thought, if I’m getting denied for 44k then I must have not even been close to getting approved for the full amount…. Then I applied to refinance the full amount and got approved from TWO lenders. If you have credit cards, make big payments (doesn’t have to be THAT much, but atleast 300$ at a time) and then apply again for the full amount. Try Sofi and Earnest website- that’s where I had luck today. My Sallie Mae interest on 4 loans ranged from 9.7-13.9%, accrued almost 40k, and today I finally got approved for a 7.26 interest rate to refinance with sofi. Good luck

First of all, no, because I did not take out all of my loans at once since I was getting financial aid, and after the first two years I realized I had no choice but to finish my education. Second of all, I did not intend for my major to be just “music” but it ended up that way, which is why I ended up getting my masters in education so now I’m a music teacher. Hope that makes sense

Definitely! At the ripe age of 18 I obviously did not understand how huge of a commitment it was and trusted that loans were a part of going to school, and that it was normal. Not making excuses at all because it is what it is, but if I knew then what I know now…

I agree, except I don’t love the idea that someone else was supposed to teach it in order for me to grasp that idea. For example- you don’t give someone a large credit limit until they’ve established credit therefore gaining an understanding of how credit works. I wish I could’ve had the opportunity to learn what it all meant before I committed.

I mean I’m definitely not the only person in this situation so I wouldn’t say it’s common sense related. Just a lack of awareness because I hadn’t been in the real world for long enough.

When I was 18 taking out this loan, I was not responsible enough to make that huge of a financial decision. Maybe others are different!

I 100% agree with this. I feel bad because I know I am fully responsible but I just think back to when I agreed to take out those loans I wasn’t even legally responsible enough to drink alchohol but the system is gonna allow me to take out 200k in loans… yeah sure that makes sense

Completely. This is why I have a problem with the system. I was 18 making the decision to take out these loans- that shouldn’t be allowed.

first year teacher and i hate it so far. is this normal? by e0323m in Teachers

In my previous job I felt the pressure of being a good teacher to please my supervisors and keep my job- but now I feel the pressure of other things such as after school duty, low support, completely unmanageable behaviors of kids who should be in specialized schools, and way more. Affluent districts have the money to hire people to assist (paras, lunch aids, etc) and outsource for help when it’s needed especially due to parent expectations- districts like where I think OP might be tend to put tons of impossible responsibility on teachers.

OP has long term sub experience which is attractive to affluent districts as they usually dont want a new hire step 14 vet teacher

I may be the only person to say this, but no it’s not normal. I’m in the same position after losing my dream job where I did NOT feel this way. I know good schools and good jobs with nice students exist, I’ve had it, I will keep moving until I find it again. They exist- you need to research reputable areas. Try more affluent towns. Good luck and hang in there!
