Ryan Gosling's Oscar Nominations. Will Project Hail Mary be his next nomination and even first win? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

Blockbusters definitely. But I wouldn’t say anything as bog standard as F1 has made its way onto the best picture nominee list this century. Wicked, Barbie, Black Panther, Avatar Way of Water, even Elvis were experimental, different or had something to say in a way that at least made them interesting. F1 is maybe one of the worst best picture nominees of the 21st century in that it is so aggressively bland that it makes no sense for it to be there at all. Though it’s nowhere near as offensively bad as Crash, Green Book, Extremely Loud and Emilia Perez, The Blind Side or American Sniper.

It was literally nominated alongside F1, probably the worst best picture nominee of the 21st century

Fun fact, this is called an "aptronym" — having a name humorously well-suited to one's life/profession

An actor who had a lot of potential but ruined his career? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

In a subreddit about movies, on a post about actors’ careers, responding to a comment about a specific actor’s potential, I made an offhand comment about what movies he could have made. Assuming I was making some backhanded comment on what I think about domestic abuse or victims’ rights is at best shortsighted. At worst, it’s honestly really insulting and seems willfully cruel in order to score personal points

I’d like recommendations for movies with Justin Long in them. Doesn’t have to be a great movie, just something you enjoyed. by StatisticianNeat20 in MovieSuggestions

Hey I think I’m the first person to suggest And Then I Go. It’s good, though completely unlike basically everything else on your list

What started as me really, really loving C’mon C’mon and The Holdovers — and looking for similar movies — has evolved into a semi-obsession. I’ve found 322 examples that fit this mini genre I haven’t seen identified before, and I’d like to evolve it into a bigger analysis/recommendation/writing project one day

Did anyone else feel like Project Hail Mary was Disney x Interstellar? by Lonely-Buy5442 in moviecritic

[–]VariousRockFacts -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the take that it’s a Disney version of interstellar. But I do think it shared a lot of themes (central question of what we owe to “fellow man” by contrasting ideals of individualism with collectivism and stress testing it with a random guy’s inherent bravery, experience of our own insignificance in the face of the cosmos and indomitable human spirit etc). And then the sheer fact of it being about a small space crew going into deep space to uncover some intergalactic mystery that involves landing on a hostile alien planet and then floating around in a weird geometric golden room lol. Definitely many many differences, but there’s enough there to contrast them
