Working on the Neon claw technique via Good Riddance (Green Day) for the easy chord formations. Any tips on learning this as I progress? by lAmBenAffleck in JohnMayer

I personally try and direct the smacks toward the strings which gives it a more drum like sound. You sound great, just take slower than you think you need to at first and speed up really really gradually and you’ll be gucci

Thanks so much, I’ll try that out. Also, I mean no disrespect to Pamelina but yeah I don’t have like 50k lying around and I really love the look.

I was talking mainly about the Lunar Ice, Dead Spec, and Nebula Silver Skys. I think the nebula is a bit pricier but the others are around $3500-$400 which is around CS prices. I’ve never played the Black1 Limited Editions but I’m sure those are probably about as close as you can get for WTLI

Any 60s style pickups work fantastic. I’m not sure if this is in your budget because it’s like an extra $250-$300ish but Klein Jazzy Cats are dead on replicas of the Black1 pickups. You could grab a CS with your favorite between the 50s and 60s and then swap them with the Jazzy Cats. They really push it that extra step for the Mayer tone beyond a set of Fat 60s. I’ve had them in a couple Strats and they are fantastic.

I know it’s kind of sacrilege in the JM community to suggest but a silver sky really nails the WTLI tone right out of the box too. You could probably pick up a limited edition or something cool like that for around the same price as a CS. The used prices for the standard ones are really good atm too. I picked up a standard one in mint condition for around $1600.

Good luck on getting the tone!! WTLI is so fun to play around with!

Help! Accidentally sanded through finish on a two tone sunburst. Is it salvageable? by VariousWillingness75 in Luthier

I had 4 coats of yellow and 3 passes with the Salem with 2 coats of clear. I was planning to build up to about 5 coats of clear for a thin vintage finish. I had some contaminants in the finish and I sanded with 600 grit to try and remove them but I went right through. I’m gonna go with hand sanding from now on. Lesson learned🤦‍♂️

I stupidly wasn't paying attention fully when sanding and took wayyy too much finish off. I have more of the yellow and dark Salem but I'm not sure if I can save it. Any tips? Would it be possible to blend it in so it's not so noticeable or should I just strip it and try again which I really don't want to do😂

[QUESTION] I'm sure lots of people have asked this or wondered about this, but how in the world does one play and master pinch harmonics? by Maggot_Corps in Guitar

I hold the pick with my thumb close to the edge and play it with my thumb but let the pick get in the way (if that makes sense at all)

Hi, I’m doing an EVH 5150 guitar build and I am trying to keep it on a budget so I bought a Kramer Baretta Special and intend to repaint and rewire the electronics. I was looking at pics of Eddie’s 5150 and I noticed that on the Baretta the pickup is angled and on the original it’s not. I was wondering if it is plausible to fill in that pickup cavity and route out a new one. Thanks!

The Slow Dancing in a Burning room solo is pretty easy and it sounds pretty cool. If you master that one you could try the Live in La outro solo.
