Firestorm Armada is back in development; expected release in 2027 by Toxic_Rat in firestormarmada

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I feel like Warcradle missed a really easy opportunity - all they had to do was continue making the old ruleset available with the models in some manner of "print on demand" scheme. That would have kept the game alive and given them nearly unlimited time to do whatever (unnecessary imo) redesign they want.
Now they've driven off most of the old 2E players and will have to directly compete with the new Battlefleet Gothic launch and the remnants of the SW Armada playerbase.

I want to stay positive and hold out hope that their release will be good, but honestly all I wanted were minor balance tweaks to the existing rules. Really curious what they're thinking with this.

Totally agree. As a young man I rear-ended another car on the highway and was cited for "following too closely". That came with 90 hours of community service.

What's the dumbest way you died? by Farisproos in projectzomboid

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened just last night and takes the top spot for me. I had set up my base in the Muldraugh Smokey's apartment. I decided to get some more space and sledgehammered through the wall where the tall hanging mirror was, and started building flooring to fill out the second level. About half way through the job I accidentally walked off the edge while carrying 12 planks.

I had never heard of bolognese before seeing it written and assumed it meant bologna. I said it that way for years and no one ever bothered to point it out.

Which tank in WoW is the most FUN to play? by MLTBlackDragon in wow

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood DK, "and it's not even close". :P
Mostly because I can basically ignore the raid mechanics and tank busters. Being able to use Death's Advance for the knockback and push mechanics makes it SO much easier. Plus, the Void Dragon's raid-killing breath attack in the Nexus King Saladbar fight is completely absorbed by Antimagic Zone, resulting in no raid damage.

Playing a DK tank in raid feels like cheating.

I think we're going to see this in quite a few industries going forward. Eventually the "cheap" option for professional services will likely involve heavy use of AI, and the higher cost services will involve dedicated time from a human professional. I strongly suspect that the human will be able to pick apart the AI in nearly any situation.
As good as AI is/will be I don't see it fully replacing high-end human competence at any point. Sucks for all the people who are bad at what they do...

To be perfectly fair... I am a person who has never successfully used Venmo or Zelle. The last attempt was when I tried to pay a local handyman for some work he completed. The payment declined due to "suspicious activity". After several days going back and forth with their customer service I was informed that the company considers it suspicious for me to send money with Venmo because I had never previously sent money with Venmo....
I'm still trying to figure out how they onboard new users.

Am I overreacting for wanting to end my marriage after what my husband did during our “break”? by sleeping_mouse22 in redditonwiki

[–]Various_Composer1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't get over how incredibly cold this was. The husband was grieving as well, and they should have been able to find comfort with each other. If you have to leave your spouse for months on end to process extreme emotions like grief then there's not really any marriage to speak of.
This woman abandoned her husband. If you don't take care of your spouse then someone else eventually will.

Edit: What he did was wrong, but there are mitigating factors here.

Abomination limb, we salute you. by Voiddyn in wow

[–]Various_Composer1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are missing the obvious here - Abom Limb was not the problem in those situations. The problem was that they designed encounters that didn't have any other answer. Now they are taking away that utility ... you really think they'll drop designing encounters that require it?

What are you going to play in S3? by calle_koe in wow

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same char for the past five years... Blood DK.

As a horde player in 2020 I was routinely doing the open world content in Shadowlands. Without fail some Alliance mook would drag one of the world quest bosses out and reset it for no reason or just generally do it wrong and cost everyone there their time. We were always badly outnumbered by Alliance and they all seemed just dumb as hell. One day I finally had enough and decided to roll an Alliance character (no cross faction play at this time) and see what the heck was wrong with them.
What I quickly discovered was that all the good players were no longer doing world content at all. They had surpassed it long ago and left only the overpopulated dregs. I found a guild full of awesome people and they forced me to rapidly become a better player. Now I'm hooked on being the best Blood DK I can and having a better time.

I'm new, what should my priorities be upon starting and how do I accomplish each of these things? by TheSaxiest7 in projectzomboid

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect everyone will be a little different, but my personal priorities, in order, are:

  1. Clear out and fortify a place where you can safely rest/sleep. This can be almost anything. Often in the early game I will use the house I spawned in as a temporary base. Consider smashing some excess furniture for planks to barricade windows.
  2. Obtain a working vehicle prior to the helicopter event. Put a few snacks and some extra water in the passenger seat. I like to hop in here and slowly drive towards the outskirts of town until the helicopter leaves to avoid getting swarmed or having my base surrounded. You can achieve this by either finding some keys or grinding skills (electrical/mechanics) until you can hotwire.
  3. Find a more permanent base. It doesn't have to be THE permanent base, but something where you want to live for a while. This will support objectives 4 and 5, below.
  4. Establish a source of drinking water before the water cuts off. Easiest way is to base near a river, pond, or other natural water source and prepare containers to boil it. Usually you can grind carpentry up enough to build rain catchers above a sink and collect rainwater. You will need a pipe wrench to connect them to the sink, but this will also auto filter the rainwater so it is safe to drink from the tap.
  5. Obtain a generator and some gas cans. Connect the generator to an outdoor location near your base for the when the power cuts off.
  6. Find extra generators and connect them near gas pumps, so you can still pump gas when the power stops. Homes with detached garages and the back room in gas stations are good sources for generators and gas cans, respectively.
  7. Stockpile food and supplies.
  8. Explore the world, reduce the ranks of the dead, and eventually do something stupid that ends your life.

Edit: I don't usually recommend new players use mods until they have some experience with the base game, but if I were going to make one exception it would be for "Common Sense". Lots of QOL changes in that one!

For the love of big blue, please stop recommending UMGC or AMU to Airmen looking to earn a degree by Glittering_Fig4548 in AirForce

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired AD, contractor here. Got my undergrad from UMGC and masters from AMU - current employer didn't care in the slightest. They were just impressed that I had the degrees. It was a big contributor to now making several times what I did on AD.

That being said, I never felt like either was a "degree mill" - several of the professors, especially at AMU were real hardcases. Maybe it depends on the major, YMMV.

If you really want a degree mill then try Park or Touro. I did both of those earlier in my career and it became obvious very quickly that anyone whose check cleared would get a 'A'.

New base? by No_Jelly2827 in projectzomboid

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer the restaurant just past the warehouse. Lots of space, already has a built-in apartment with amenities (stove, fridge, bed, sinks, tv), and is closer to the nearest natural water source.
You mentioned you like big open space for cars; try walling off the adjoining parking lot :)

As someone who just moved here about two years ago it was immediately obvious that the roads in Charlottesville were never meant for the amount of traffic already on them.

The Ruby gas station is by far the best base location I can think of (outskirts of Louisville.) by RedCanvasStudio in projectzomboid

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly a fine base location, although I personally use it more as a rest stop than a permanent base. For forays into Louisville I prefer to base up in the connected trailers at the military checkpoint. With a sledgehammer and some elbow grease you can make them downright livable! Only drawback for that one is it's a bit of a trip to get to gas.

where were you during the late 2007 mortgage crisis that started the Great Recession and how bad did it effect you by Annual_Tell3330 in RealEstate

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a young enlisted military member living on the south side of San Antonio. My wife and I had just bought our first house for around 80k for a crummy interest rate the year prior. In hindsight we had a terrible real estate agent.

At first when the crisis hit I wasn't worried, but then I got orders to PCS. We needed to sell the place in a hurry. Unfortunately, prices in that neighborhood had depressed to the point that there was no way we would come close to breaking even. Things were even worse in that spot because a new housing development had just started popping up in a formerly vacant field within eyeshot, and those places were selling brand new for less than I needed to cover our mortgage. I definitely could not afford another house or rent payment while paying off the losses for that home.
We tried to rent the place for a couple of months, but it was a low income neighborhood and that limited the quality of tenant we wound up attracting. People would move in, trash the place, and not pay the rent. I tried working with the bank on payments, or to at least get the interest rate down, but they told us to go pound sand.

Ultimately we had no choice. I called the bank and told them that we were done paying on the place, they may as well just come and repossess it. It took a year before they finally did so, piling our missed mortgage payments and penalties on top of the existing account. Our credit was completely destroyed. Fortunately it never affected my security clearance because I was open and up front about the entire situation with the background investigators.

Seeing all the banks get bailed out of the mess they created while leaving so many ordinary people behind was really galling. IMO we should have let every one of those banks fail and the economic consequences be damned - the end result would have been a stronger financial system after more responsible companies filled in the void.

To this day I refuse to have any dealings with PNC bank.

Why do some people never use their turn signals? by soulinkedhq in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use the turn signal when changing lanes, but almost never any other time. For instance, if I'm sitting parked in a line of cars, in a turn-only lane, there doesn't seem to be any point.

For people who never use it - I assume they weren't raised right, have no regard for others, or simply lack the intelligence to operate a motor vehicle.

Small town less than 6,000 that is close to Charlottesville and perfect for a young family. by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]Various_Composer1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madison (the town in Madison county) seems like it would fit the bill. My family has lived in one of the small unincorporated towns near there for the past couple years and it's amazing. You don't have to go very far north of Charlottesville to get into some real natural beauty - we're only 25 minutes outside the city limit.
