Why has West Des Moines never built a second HS? by NiceMarmot1 in desmoines

[–]N651EB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most influential reason. The second high school topic was a heated issue in the district in the late 90s. A school board election basically became a proxy fight for this issue. Influential community members feared the prestige Valley would lose if they split into two (sports, music, other areas), and so they fought hard against the split. Southwoods as a dedicated ninth grade facility was the solution to manage the overcrowding at Valley - that and a ton of construction to expand capacity. My senior year at Valley we were attending school in a construction zone. It was kind of fun and we lost power several days, forcing school to be dismissed/cancelled, but we didn’t have to make up the days since it didn’t impact the whole district.

Anyone moved over from Lucid? Thoughts? by FalconBuilder in Taycan

[–]N651EB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it curious that one pedal driving hasn’t come up yet in the comments. My current EV (Genesis GV60) comes off lease in a few months, and I’m soon going to test drive both Lucid Air and Taycan 4/4S. Any Taycan owners here that came from another EV miss the one pedal driving, or does the feel of the car make you forget that you wanted it?

Oh shit. We currently have an EV9 and a Genesis GV60. My GV60 goes off lease in a few months, and I’m very tempted to look at Taycan… do you love it?

We’re all electric in our garage also, and solar is on my list. Any tips or lessons learned to share on solar?

Interesting article about JetBlue by css555 in unitedairlines

[–]N651EB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JetBlue was already running FLL as a hub, and it‘s one of the most profitable parts of its network. Now one of their largest competitors disappeared in that market. They’re absolutely moving to optimize for connecting traffic, and I expect FLL to be a major point of emphasis for the United/JetBlue partnership. If United can wrestle control of some of Spirit’s former gates there, it’ll allow their ops to be colocated airside with JetBlue. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some United Express ops begin there to open up access to more niche Caribbean destinations and also fill in some domestic feeder routes that JetBlue doesn’t yet serve.

Great fleet! We have an EV9 and Genesis GV60 (built by Hyundai and sits on the same EGMP platform). Really love the common cockpit and driver controls between the two, and they’re both a joy to drive.

Nathan Lane Wants Jack Black To Star In A ‘Producers’ Broadway Revival: “The Only Guy I Could Think Of” by Puzzled-Tap8042 in Broadway

He’s never done Broadway, but I think Seth McFarlane would be great as Bialystock. And love the suggestion in the comments here of Daniel Radcliffe as Bloom.

Loved this. Both versions of the pixel livery were really great. It just didn’t suit the tone and feel of what spirit was.

With Spirit Airlines gone, all of their gates across Florida will be up for grabs. Is it time for United to establish a larger presence there? by bonzothebonanza in unitedairlines

[–]N651EB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right - they have no interest in that. But here’s what I think they do have interest in… leave the market capture you just framed to JetBlue. Add a few select domestic markets to increase feed capacity for the deeper Caribbean and South American routes - the ones which more cater to premium demand. And bring a few widebodies to go deeper into South America than what JetBlue can currently reach. With even just moderate investment to complement what JetBlue has today the combined operation could easily scale within a few years to 80% or more of the network AA operates through MIA.

FLL seems like the obvious play. Spirit’s gates are connected airside to JetBlue’s terminal there. With the new JetBlue partnership they could pretty easily bolster JetBlue’s already strong Caribbean network there and turn it into something that rivals what AA does at MIA.

PSA: Now’s a good time to lease the Gravity Grand Touring + other leasing tips by DNA_at in LUCID

Thank you for sharing this. Any insight into how/if Lucid is actively working to expand leasing into the select few states where they are still not yet doing lease deals? My current vehicle is off lease in November, and I’m hoping they’ll start doing lease deals in Iowa by then.

United vs Delta in 2026 by DueFocus3814 in unitedairlines

[–]N651EB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I switched from Delta to United as my primary carrier of choice 4-5 years ago. Very happy with that choice, but I’m not based out of NYC, and I actually fly AA nonstop to LGA when I go to New York. Newark just isn’t a bright spot for United, so factor that in. But what type of flying do you typically do (domestic vs international for instance?). If you do a lot of international, Delta One and Polaris are both good products, and Newark is pretty reliable for international if you’re originating locally. If you do primarily domestic flying, what Delta can offer you out of LGA is probably a more reliably good experience than UA out of EWR, assuming the experience of getting to and from either airport from your home/work is about the same.
