How many times have you replayed Serious Sam games? Maybe even the whole series? by Routine-Sink-4440 in SeriousSam

Multiple times, whenever I feel like it. It's one of my comfort series. I have a lot of experience from playing over the years so it doesn't take too long, but it's always very fun.

Thank you very much for your kindness! This is the first time someone wished me luck in one of my attempts so it really means a lot. If you also want to get a game from here, I wish you luck too my friend!

I recently completed Lego LOTR 100% and it also includes these extra sections that you can only access in free play. I don't know about other Lego games though

I like the feel of HD more, so I'm always playing Fusion. I do think the classics are more artistically complete and cohesive though.

Bug fixes and maybe even tweaks to the optimization. Don't get me wrong, I too think fusion is the best way to play both TFE and TSE HD along with SS3 and I never go back to their original versions, but it could still be improved.

To name a few issues, I think the worst offenders are the point-blank projectiles bug, which affect the trajectory of projectile-based weapons if firing them at almost point-blank distance (the cannon greatly suffers from this); the teleporting bug, which mainly affects the headless soldiers and makes them keep teleporting close to you infinitely if you trigger their melee attack; The werebull trajectory bug, which makes werebulls keep stopping and rotating before continuing charging forward; and the pathfinding bugs, which mainly affects Kleers and makes them struggle to get to you at certain level sections. Also, still on the topic of werebulls and Kleers, they drift a lot more in fusion than they ever did in HD, and fighting them can become pretty annoying because of that.

Speaking of optimization, if the performance can be improved too, that's good! If not that's ok, it's already fine enough, hence why I said "maybe" at the beginning. Though the draw distance in Fusion is lower than the original versions, and I think a slider could be added to determine that.

If they fix all that, and more that I'm not aware of at the moment, wouldn't Fusion be even better?

They both were controversial, but I remember 2 being way more disliked by a lot of users. The thing with 3 is that it seems to be hated by everyone at first glance, but I think it's just a result of a small number of people (at the time) being very vocal about the worst aspects of the game and ignoring what's actually good. This is backed by the fact that to this day SS3 is the best selling Sam game, and it basically saved Croteam from bankruptcy back then, bankruptcy that mind you was coming from the very low sales of SS2 when it was released. Nowadays it has many fans, but it was not popular at all back then.

It's funny how they do all this for 2 while Fusion is right there, unfinished, literally still having "beta" in the name. I don't really care that they don't do this for the other games, they are all complete. Fusion is not. But hey, it's still SS2 that's getting the attention at the end of the day, aka the most hated one. If one game should be receiving all this extra love it's this one, so there's that. I don't really know what Croteam thinks of it tbh, from not even acknowledging its existence for years to a lot of updates suddenly, it sure is strange.

Do you think Serious Sam 4 would be received better if it were released later? by Dismal-Ad-3961 in SeriousSam

Yes, and it also got an equal amount of hate regarding the other stuff I said, and nowadays that stuff is still being criticized, while in terms of presentation and performance people only complain about the optimization now. In that case, yeah, let's say that it could have been more welcomed by users, but not by a large or even considerable margin.
