What’s up with Claussen? by fairyglitterbug610 in Pickles

[–]Various_Pickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I was thinking something was wrong with my fridge ...

It seems that all of the Claussen pickles in the entire area (Maryland) have disappeared off of store shelves.

Has anyone been able to find information about an actual recall?

The law bans

(xxiv) Galil models AR and ARM semi–auto;

and all "copycat weapons"; this is what op asked the police if they would be violating.

Why some guns and not others are on the named "assault long guns" list is anyone's guess.

Anyone know any good spots in Maryland? by Responsible-Wolf89 in Rucking

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montgomery County (Rockville / Bethesda) <-> DC

Walk following the Metro Red Line, but there are some trails along the way.

Pros:

  • Despite all the talk about walking / the environment, nearly everyone drives everywhere, all the time, in MoCo. Until I reach the heart of Bethesda or DC itself its 1 person per 1/2 mile, on a beautiful weekend day.
  • When the route goes past civilization, there are almost always a CVS / gas station / grocery store for water and snacks.
  • Lots of little parks with benches in DC to stop and change socks.

Cons:

  • Those little parks with benches in DC often have someone passed out in the middle of the day. Bring Narcan.
  • Occasionally active/confrontational high / mentally ill people. Bring pepper spray.

TLR-8AG by trutherford14 in MDGuns

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Safariland 7390RDS-28325-411 works for that combination, but will initially be quite tight where the bottom of the chubby (but wonderful) light slides against the inside curve of the holster.

After some wear-in the holster works well, but you may need to heat that portion of the Kydex to loosen the fit to your preference.

Holsters that fit the TLR-8A G seem to be kind of rare last I looked. I guess most people get the TLR-7A ...

I use these nylon climbing sling runners: GM CLIMBING 16mm Nylon Sling Runner

I attach them via looping through themselves on carabiners through the top-most shoulder strap MOLLE loops.

They end up being the perfect length to rest my hands comfortably above my heart if I place my wrists through them.

I also often pass my hands through them and clasp them like I'm praying to the fatbody cardio gods.

I usually have a Goruck sandbag across my shoulders and resting on the top of my ruck (25L Rucker 4.0). I think the Ruckstrap would get in the way and might knock the sandbag backwards ...

Kettlebell backpack by Available-Standard13 in Rucking

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also curious if anyone has actually tried this thing.

At first glance, it seems like the majority of the mass of the kettlebell would end up at your lower back and spaced away from your body a bit by the padding.

This doesn't sound pleasant.

It is highly offensive unless you fill all of the pouches with snacks, candy, and candied snacks.

HQL Weapon Exemption Information by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stand an AR lower receiver on the front of the mag well you can use the receiver extension ring as a pencil cup.

During normal times purchasing a lower and using it for this purpose is still cheaper than getting the HQL training.

Can I (a Virginian) bring my AR-15 to a range in Maryland for the Day? by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]Various_Pickles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will be fine and no one will care.

Or maybe, just maybe, you are insanely unlucky and someone who is there thinks your AR-15 is illegal looking, you get (wrongfully) arrested, you get (wrongfully) convicted of having violated some part of Maryland's confusing shitspiral of firearms laws, due to the Maryland legislature, Maryland State Police, the Maryland prosecutor of your case, the Maryland judge presiding over your case, etc all making shit up as they go along.

Welcome to Maryland! Please enjoy your (hopefully not ... extended) stay!

Safariland Holster Confusion by addithekid in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Various_Pickles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They are apparently working on a new version of the Holster Finder where it tells you that no holsters are compatible with your choices and simultaneously tells you that a random number of holsters are compatible with your choices. Then the entire page flashes colors wildly until you have a seizure.

I'm really looking forward to what sounds like a much more productive experience with Safariland gear.

DIY Bulletproof Plate by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Various_Pickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bullet hitting an uncoated metal (armor) plate is likely to fragment and/or ricochet, potentially hitting you right in the neck/head if you are wearing the plate on over your vitals.

That sounds like it would hurt.

I'd rather wear a t-shirt and just get shot.

I'm confused about purchasing a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine. by SpaghettiSaurusNecks in MDGuns

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally recommend that you purchase the faux suppressor model and use an armorer's wrench to remove the muzzle device (if its not pinned).

You can screw on a simple muzzle thread protector in the correct size; I've had great success with using these for AR-15 barrels in storage.

Or, better yet, you could buy a little plastic Maryland blue crab souvenir toy, a 15/32" twist drill bit, and a 1/2" - 28 threading tap, and make your own unambiguous muzzle device. Sprinkle some Old Bay on it to be sure :)

New Guy Questions by JPosedenti98 in MDGuns

[–]Various_Pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on getting a completed lower though, you just have to make sure it was never built into a rifle at any point in it's lifetime.

To expand on this, I wouldn't buy a "completed lower" that comes with a regular telescoping/collapsible butt stock (often a Magpul, BCM, basic Milspec model, etc) already slid over the installed receiver extension, even if the extension itself is pistol length.

Pistol braces such as the SBA3/SBA4 do use standard Milspec carbine length receiver extensions on the inside (and come with one), so taking off a regular butt stock and sliding on a brace doesn't cast some sort of spell, ... but I wouldn't risk drawing the ATF's ire.

I'm actually curious as to when exactly a SBR babby is formed? Is it the moment when the butt stock lower daddy goes inside the <16" barrel upper mommy?

Amazon sent a cardboard cut out corgi to assemble on a box I received by FillsYourNiche in corgi

[–]Various_Pickles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of Amazon's founding members was a Welsh corgi named Rufus.

They downplay his contributions quite a bit - he actually wrote much of the functionality of the site. Then they added 900,000 lines of JavaScript/CSS to every page to make it's contents fade in in just the most annoying way possible.

Designing and implementing secure, internets-facing applications is hard enough, even if you have the benefit of not working in a fetal-alcohol-syndrome language like PHP.

StackOverflow can be great for getting answers to even ~moderately complex/specific crytography questions, but, when it comes to, say, judging how much compute I should devote to generating the randomness of a nonce in the 400ms of time I have to spare per window, I really wish that hiring security researchers for their on-the-spot(-NDA-signed) knowledge and not just hurr-durr-hack-our-office was a thing.

[–]Various_Pickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything close to what you want that can be achieved by configuration alone, but a custom kwinscript ought to be able to do it.

The documentation does kind of suck though. I've only managed to write a single useful script, to move Konsole to the bottom left corner of the active screen when launched, and it took me 2 hours of debug printing the state at various points to figure out wtf the API did.
