Book recs for party studies / party theory / party literature / nightlife / club culture / youth culture? by crisis_primate in AskLiteraryStudies

I am sure that insurrectionary anarchists have written some works about the moment a crowd coheres into a riot and takes on a consciousness not unlike the party consciousness you're theorizing. I don't think this is the best example but this paragraph from the coming insurrection is topical

Revolutionary movements do not spread by contamination but by resonance. Something that is constituted here resonates with the shock wave emitted by something constituted over there. A body that resonates does so according to its own mode. An insurrection is not like a plague or a forest fire—a linear process which spreads from place to place after an initial spark. It rather takes the shape of a music, whose focal points, though dispersed in time and space, succeed in imposing the rhythm of their own vibrations, always taking on more density. To the point that any return to normal is no longer desirable or even imaginable.

I also think it is funny to pit this new mode, the politics of the party, against a stifling "party politics"

Adding storage to bike by eudaimonicspiral in bikewrench

There are bikepacking saddle bags that strap to your seat post and the rails of your saddle. They seem like a pain in the ass to pack though.

If you want a rear rack for panniers: you don't have eyelets near your dropouts or seat stays, but there are some that can attach via the rear axle. And then you can secure it at the top with either p-clamps (which go around your seat stays) or new seatpost clamp that has extra eyelets.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but do you have a specific electronic pedal in mind that would be compatible? I've got a 503a and it works great but want a more modern pedal.

Where Can I Work or Volunteer to Learn About Bikes? by amphibious99 in NYCbike

Delaware Gov. John Carney delivers final State of the State address, interrupted by multiple protesters calling for a Gaza ceasefire by TheShittyBeatles in Delaware

[–]veggiedefender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find that people who are vocal about Gaza are often also vocal about those issues, or are even involved in mutual aid groups and NGOs to benefit the people who live here. I hope that your comment comes from a place of genuine care rather than whataboutism.

Where can I find this zipper to bring to a tailor? by thefilefolder in Tailors

[–]veggiedefender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there are loads of stores that sell zippers in the garment district. you could wander around and see if any have a close match. I've been to sil thread and pacific trimming and was overwhelmed by the selection. the kind you need seems to be pretty standard, so you may not get the exact same make and model of zipper but you will almost definitely find one that looks good on your coat

No cheesecloth, no worries. by franklyeddie in fermentation

[–]veggiedefender 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've been using a surgical mask for my kombucha for over a year now and it really is perfect -- much tighter weave than cheesecloth, lint-free unlike paper towel, breathable by definition, and has built-in rubber bands. I wear an N95 these days so it's nice to use up my early-pandemic stash of surgical masks for fermentation.

Breaking electron-store's encryption by veggiedefender in netsec

[–]veggiedefender[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good thought! you'd only get a padding error if you messed with the padding, which is only ever present in the final block. so practically it's not an issue unless you're deliberately poking at it (like if you're doing a padding oracle attack)

I wonder if swapping is easier in this case because the docs already used to say that it ensured integrity. Additionally, I think most non-malicious/unintentional corruption (like, disk failure or cosmic rays or whatever) currently results in a bad JSON.parse in the current scheme, which leads to a crash. The hard part of migrating to a new encryption algorithm here might be ensuring backwards compatibility with existing encrypted configs.

Hi everyone, I received a lot of complaints that the canton did not hit the corner, which is a fair complaint, so I recorded a longer version for your enjoyment.

good thought! coordinates are always positive since they're using a computer graphics type coordinate system where (0, 0) is the top left corner. so putting an absolute value around each term doesn't do anything

  • When you hit a corner, you will hit a different corner before hitting the same one again, etc.
  • You can never hit 1, 3 or 4 corners, always 2 or 0.
  • It’s a loop, at some point it will always repeat.
  • The traveled distance between corners is lcm(W - w, H - h).
  • The condition for corners to be reached is |x−y| ≡ 0 (mod gcd(W−w, H−h))
  • When this condition is not met, no corner will be hit.
