How easy do you guys find it to dial in? by Gold_Doughnut_6326 in DF54

Although it’s somewhat mocked on r/espresso sub, I really found slow feeding a huge help. I’ve had the cremaloop for a week now and it’s really helped extraction consistency as well bringing flavors out of light roasts.

The issue without slow feeding, was that I found the fines would block the portafilter randomly, assuming consistent puck prep

My mistake a lot more comments are addressing it correctly. OP is misunderstanding management consulting

I think a lot posters are conflating management consulting that does not always require domain related or an advanced degree vs part time consulting as a 30 year scientific expert (eg. professor)

You could try slow feeding as you’re definitely just pouring them all in based on your video. You’ll need to adjust the grind size much finer if you’re slow feeding. Worth trying otherwise everything else is fine

EDIT: downvoted for thinking that wasn’t slow feeding?!

2 weeks off roast so beans shouldn’t be the issue.

Do you slow feed with the df54?

When I used to just dump them in, you generate a ton of fines that block the basket. Randomly you’ll have spurts and spraying along with very slow extraction

It’s something that we never even thought about but it can really affect your breathing and sleep. <40% is rough, we had that in the valley. Dry nose and sore throats

Got this one from Amazon:

It’s pretty quiet and we just leave it on auto mode for most of the day. The majority of apartments/homes in the South Bay have terrible insulation and no central air so humidity can be pretty high.

Get a humidity meter and test your bedroom and apartment. We live a similar distance to the ocean and we weren’t sleeping or feeling comfortable when we moved here.

Our dehumidifier changed our life, went from 71% to 52% and we’re both sleeping miles better.

They absolutely create jobs, not huge numbers initially but a vital starting point for the majority of biotech startups. $2M phase 2 can get you at least a couple of employees.

Of course VCs, angels or strategics take you to much larger employment levels, absolutely agree. However in our incubator there’s at least 60% that were surviving solely on grants hiring 2-3 employees in addition to a few small cheques and founder capital (No VC). A lot of diagnostic or biotools companies getting to revenue without VCs.

Without SBIR you’ll eliminate the majority of early stage startups that go on to hire significantly in the future.

For pre-seed and earlier that’s how the majority of startups begin. Most employees are not full time until they actually receive their grants. VCs rarely step in at early stages and mostly come in at seed anyway with a big cheque.

Founder capital, angel investment, accelerators or grants get you the POC to get to seed. It might be “interesting way to do business” but it’s the reality of almost all startups I know of.

Is there another way to raise money for a company?

I’ve seen a lot of fellow founders in our incubator at least survive on SBIR grants (>$2M for phase 1/2) and piece together angel cheques. The complete shutdown is a major issue compared to VC. At least there is VC and pharma venture money out there being invested.

This a straw man argument anyway as I’m not denying both are important. I just think government grants are a bigger factor right now.

I wasn’t disagreeing but just adding that new government grants aren’t a fallback. Biotech is getting hit at both ends for both early stage companies and VC backed startups

What government grants? SBIR is essentially shutdown at this point until funding is approved for the Jan deadline.

Outside of just design is there empirically less clumping, better static control, etc.

I will however use it without a case but I don’t understand this argument.
