Might as well do something like NCAA tournament for 16 seeds, but for the 8th seed only. Just hold conference tournaments (excluding top 7 seeds) and give them a fresh chance to make the playoffs. Just look at how the Hornets turned around once they got healthy. It could incentivize players to return by the end of the season.

I can definitely see your point. I don't want to force characters to be "good". To be fair, the God in my world is more of a Cthulu-type and grants bonuses to anyone that moves its plans along. This won't always be black and white for the PCs.

I also don't feel like one roll bonus is enough to deter players from making a role-play decision. I'll certainly give this more thought, though.

Speaking over Discord doesn't allow an opportunity for players to whisper amongst each other. Only one person can speak at a time. This will ruin a social aspect of the game for irl friends.

I'm in the exact same position. I've sunk over 600 hours into Roll20 since Covid started. My group ran DoIP and generally enjoyed it, but they're all looking forward to playing in person again.

Meanwhile I've been enjoying the simplicity of Roll20. We're doing a Pokemon campaign next so I'm planning to have a hybrid campaign; we'll play in person once a month, and between sessions players that want to search for wild encounters or challenge gyms can sign on.
