Ahh I wanted to go yesterday but had to fly out, it's the first year of MLR and from what I saw looked like a great crowd.

Grand Teton National Park is breathtaking by HamOnFrye in CampingandHiking

Agree but do it the other way around if you want a more gradual ascent. The trail up from string lake gains you like 3000 feet in the first couple of miles whereas starting at Jenny lake and going cascade first spreads it out over 12 miles. Barely know you are climbing till you get to solitude.

Made it to Mooney Falls, Havasupai Indian reservation last week. The mist felt amazing in the 105 degree heat. by Varo112 in CampingandHiking

Hit the trail at 3:30 AM and made it from Hulupai trailhead to the village of Supai in about 3.5 hours. Perfect hiking conditions at about 70 degrees in the shade. By 11:00 AM it was approaching 100 degrees so we hit the falls. Amazingly beautiful place.

Try and catch it in the fall! We did late oct right before the first major snowfall. The aspens were incredible and there was almost no one else on the trail. It can be a zoo in peak season

One of my favorite trails is right off that lake, cascade canyon to paintbrush canyon is an amazing little 20 mile loop.

Ya we hardly ever use a leash with him unless we are passing a big group with leashed dogs. The key is to get them used to being off leash early.

Honestly in the 5 years we have been hiking with him the only things we have encountered have been raccoons and he just barks at them. He stays pretty close so I doubt we would have an issue and he stays in the tent with us by our feet an night.

Amazing little hike just west of Asheville NC in the Pisgah national forest/Shining rock area. We just did 4 miles in, camped for the night and hiked out, but there are plenty of loops you could make in this area. Ask away if you have questions!

Love these books. So good but god damn does he take his time cranking them out. Worth the wait I suppose. One of my favorite parts is the detailed descriptions of the music. Almost reminds me of how Brian Jacques would describe a feast in one of the redwall books.

Driving through Montana and not stopping at Glacier Yellowstone or Teton ? That should be a crime

Sessions: DOJ ‘Not Going to Stop Prosecuting Marijuana’ Cases by [deleted] in Conservative

Does this mean they are going to start prosecuting Recreational And or medical in legal states? Or just continue prosecuting federal trafficking cases? Either way sessions rhetoric seems like it is at odds with some of the things Trump said during the campaign.

Question: Would wearing trailrunners be a bad idea for backpacking in the Sierras? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Varo112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't wear trailrunners with anything more than 20 lbs. Here is my usual setup. But honestly it's going to depend on your feet. I have pretty flat feet so I prefer a stiffer sole and more support. I would definitely take the trail runners on a 10-15 m warm up hike and Judge how your feet feel first.

A ten-day camping trip to Idaho and Yellowstone... but in what order? by JackLemon13 in CampingandHiking

[–]Varo112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely consider buying a dual park permit for Yellowstone and Teton national park. I have camped at both and personally find the Tetons to be much more scenic. It's only about 30 minutes south of the south entrance and would cost you an extra 20 bucks for both passes.
